HP LaserJet Pro 200 color Printer M251nw

After trying to print some photos for the first time in a long time, I started receiving this error 49. "Service error 49 Turn off then on" It does a continuous loop and only stays on the Menu prompt for maybe 2 seconds. I've tried all the troubleshooting steps from the community that I've found. I've unplugged it for days, tried to access the reset menus multiple different ways, turned off wireless, turned off router, loaded paper, etc. There's no way to try a firmware update since it will not stay powered. nothing is plugged into it except power cable. I've disassembled the printer in the past if there's a way to clear the ram or similar. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @IslaComputerpro,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "Service error 49" on HP LaserJet printers generally indicates a firmware-related issue. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the problem.

Cold Reset:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Disconnect the power cable from the back of the printer.
  • Wait at least 30 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cable and turn on the printer.
  • Check if the error persists.

Remove Network Connections:

  • Disconnect any network cables (Ethernet or wireless) from the printer.
  • Turn off the printer.
  • Turn the printer back on without reconnecting the network cables.
  • If the error is resolved, update the printer firmware.

Update Firmware:

  • If possible, try to update the printer firmware to the latest version. However, you mentioned that the printer is not staying powered on, so this might be challenging.
  • If the printer is under warranty, contact HP support for assistance.

USB Connection:

  • If you have a USB cable available, try connecting the printer to a computer via USB.
  • Turn off the printer and then turn it back on.
  • Check if the error persists.

Remove Additional Accessories:

  • Remove any additional accessories or memory upgrades from the printer.
  • Turn off the printer and then turn it back on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
