My hp 6055e all-in-one printer/scanner makes a beeping/chirping noise when in standy/sleep mode only.

I have tried the whole power recycling procedure, plugged in direct to wall (not going through UPS or surge protector, even tried different house circuit.  No difference.  It is running the latest firmware.

Hi @Charliemotts ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've taken some good troubleshooting steps already. However, if your HP ENVY 6055e printer continues to make a beeping or chirping noise while in standby or sleep mode, here are a few additional steps you can try:

Check for Paper Jams: Even if the printer is in standby mode, a paper jam could cause it to make strange noises. Open the printer cover and check for any obstructions, even small shreds of paper.

Reset Printer Settings: Sometimes, resetting the printer settings can resolve unusual behavior. You can usually find a reset option in the printer's menu settings or through the printer's control panel.

Update Printer Drivers: Make sure your printer drivers are up to date. Sometimes, outdated or corrupted drivers can cause strange behavior in printers.  Software and Drivers for HP ENVY 6055e All-in-One Printer

Environmental Factors: Sometimes, environmental factors like temperature or humidity can affect the behavior of electronic devices. Ensure that the printer is not placed in an environment with extreme temperatures or humidity levels.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

@Gaya1239:

  • there is no paper jam.  The printing works fine.
  • when the printer is powered-up but not printing (idle, but is NOT in standby mode) it makes no noise at all.  It only makes noise in sleep mode.  It's a quiet digital beeping/chirping sound. You can only hear the noise when the room is quiet.  It is not a loud noise.  I have a recording of it.
  • the environment is fine, no extremes.  It is in a bedroom, which is why we can hear it when the room is quiet.
  • I have the HP Smart app installed and it indicates the printer has the latest firmware.
  • the printer software drivers on my laptop won't have any effect on the printer, when it's not printing, and in standby mode.

My main concern, is that it is a brand new printer and I'm concerned about this noise getting worse as the printer ages.

Do other 6055e owners experience the same issue?

You are not alone.  Same issue with my printer.  Sounds goes away if I 'wake' it.

My 6055e was still under warranty and HP replaced it.  The new is silent when in sleep mode!

I have the same issue, and it literally makes me feel crazy because it never stops making noise.
