6100e printer is trash. Won’t connect to internet. Yes, tried re-booting everything. It says it’s connected but test screen says connection “failed”. Plus, power plug in rear keeps falling out of socket. Pure piece of garbage.

@Paulie1401, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

I hear you – sounds like you're dealing with a lot of frustration! That’s definitely not the experience you should have with a printer. Let’s see if we can work through the connection issue and the power plug problem.

For the connection issue:

Network Settings Check: Sometimes printers can “say” they’re connected but not actually be, especially if there’s a Wi-Fi handshake issue. Try accessing the printer’s network settings directly from the printer’s screen (or via its web interface using its IP address). Make sure the network settings are correct (SSID, encryption type, etc.).

Reset Network Settings: If possible, reset the printer’s network settings and reconnect it to Wi-Fi from scratch. This can sometimes clear out any hidden issues.

Router Channel Interference: Check the Wi-Fi router’s channel settings. Some printers struggle with certain channels or frequency bands. Try switching your router from a 5 GHz to a 2.4 GHz band (or vice versa) and see if that helps.

Try a Static IP: If it’s not connecting automatically, you could try assigning the printer a static IP address from your router, then manually enter that IP in the printer settings.

Run HP Smart:

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

For the power plug:

That sounds like a design flaw if the plug won’t stay in place. Is the plug loose in the socket, or is it just the socket on the printer that’s not holding the power cord? If the power cord itself is fine, you might want to check if there’s any visible damage to the socket inside the printer.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
