Hello,
i’m new to the forum and I’ve decided to open a new thread after spending a couple of weeks chatting with the HP support without success.
i bought an HP envy 6230 photo printer one month ago
Since the beginning I’ve been able to connect it to my WiFi network but I couldn’t see the HP instant ink cartridges ink level or the printed pages on the website.
After spending 2 hours on the phone with the hp support, and after performing all the tests that they had in the book, we ended up replacing the printer.
now I have the replacement 6230 printer, but in this case I couldn’t activate the HP web services at all.
if I press the dedicated button on the printer the interface seems to crash after 2 seconds of loading (no error messages or anything).
even from the EWS it is not possible to activate them.
i‘ve already connected the printer to my 2.4GHz network instead of the 5GHz one and I’ve set up the DNS used by the printer to google’s one
do you have any idea in how I could solve all those issues?
Thanks
P.S.: as sidenote, if I look for the replacement printer serial number online I see that it’s related to a 6255 printer, instead of the 6230 one that I’ve received

Hey there! @snoze88,
Is your printer connected to the internet all the time?
Have you registered for instant ink services?
Also, I understand your concern and situation you are into. So don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Try updating the printer firmware to the latest version and check if it helps.
Update the printer firmware using this link. Click Here
“Your Instant Ink account page has data on past deliveries and estimated shipments. It also helps you understand what state your cartridges are in based on HP’s data. Any issues will be shown with steps to fix. Please check your account page to see the latest cartridge information by signing into your account at “instantink.com
HP Instant Ink monitors your ink cartridge levels so replacement ink cartridges can be sent to you when you need them. When your printer is not connected to the Internet for an extended period of time, monitoring is interrupted, and one of the following error messages might display on your computer or printer:
-
Connect Printer to Update HP Instant Ink Status
-
If the printer is not connected to HP Connected you will be unable to print soon
-
Cannot print - Press OK to connect printer to update status
-
Press OK to connect printer so replacement cartridge can be ordered
-
Press OK to connect printer to update status
Refer this article to further troubleshoot Connect Printer to Update Status error message. Click Here
-
Restart the printer: Restarting the printer can clear possible error conditions.
-
Restart the router: Restarting your router can clear any connection issues. Consult your router manufacturer, Internet service provider, or network administrator for instructions on how to restart the router.

Hi A4Apollo,
many thanks for your reply
I've installed all the required software on my laptop (both the complete suite and the firmware ugrade tool) but the printer seems to already be up to date
I've tried to add it on HP Connected but it seems not to be correctly recognized. I've attached a screencap where you could see the difference between my previous 6230 (on the right side) and the new one.
The account was already registeret to HP Instant ink with the previous printer (the one where i could not see the ink or page status on the web page, but was correctly seen as online)
This one seems not to be able to connect online at all
The printer has been connected to the wifi network for 3 days now, without any major change

Hi! @snoze88,
Thanks for writing back to us.
In order to enroll in the instant ink program, you need to remove the web services and enable it back again.
-
On your printer control panel, touch or press the HP ePrint
icon or button, and then touch or press Settings.
If your printer control panel does not have an icon or button, navigate to Web Services Setup, Network Setup, or Wireless Settings to open the Web Services menu, depending on your printer model.
-
Select Turn Off, Disable, or Remove, depending on your printer model.
-
Follow the on-screen instructions to turn off Web Services.
If you still have issues try the steps recommended below.
1. Go to 1. hpinstantink.com/signin (the HP Connected website) to sign in to your HP Instant Ink account, if you are not signed in already.
Your HP Instant Ink account page opens.
2. In the Status area of your HP Instant Ink account page, a printer drop-down menu is available when there are multiple printers enrolled. Click the drop-down menu, and then select the printer you want to cancel.
3. My account section -> Account settings -> Cancel my HP instant Ink subscription.
Please login to your HP Connected account by clicking the link in the image below and underneath your printer in the printers tab, you'll see a remove printer option (Eg-shown below).
Refer this article to know more information about enrolling printer in instant ink. Click Here
Also, refer this article to know more information about using HP connected account. Click Here
Note: Refer FAQ section for more information.
Let me know how this works!
You have a good day ahead! 🙂

Hi A4Apollo,
the main issue is that if I try to enable the ePrint services with the dedicated button on the printer, the submenu seems to crash after a couple of seconds.
it shows “checking for updates”, then it tries to enable the services and quits
i have no other options available; I’ve also tried to enable them via the EWS without success
could it be related to the printer not showing up correctly on the HP Connected website?
shall I remove the older printer first?
thanks

Hi! @snoze88,
Try restoring the network settings to default and assign Google DNS and check if it helps.
On the printer control panel, press and hold the ( Wireless ) button and the ( Cancel ) button
together, approximately five seconds, and then release the buttons
Try the steps recommended below and assign a manual IP to your printer.
- Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
- Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
- Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
- On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
- Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different if so, use that)
- Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
- Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS. This is Google DNS. You can choose another external DNS if you wish.
- Click 'Apply'.
Let me know if this helps!
Take Care!

Hi A4Apollo,
I’ve reset the network setting without any luck
Consider that with the same settings (I’m using the same IP) the previous 6230 at least was able to get online.
i still have a crash while trying to activate the ePrint services
moreover, after leaving the printer on for a while I’ve found it showing up the 0X00829C98 error code.
ive rebooted it and now it seems gone, I’ll check if it’ll show up again
