ENVY 7155
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

I am setting up a new ENVY Photo 7155 using a USB cable (for now) on a Mac running MacOS 10.13.4.

The printer will print nicely in black and white, but not color. Using the HP Utility to print a test page does print in color. I'm not sure if it is a operating system problem or an HP connection problem. When I have a color document open, and select print, the print option popup is viewed, but the picture on the print page display is also not in color. Am I missing some setting somewhere?

Thank you for joining HP Forums.

This is a great place to get support, find answers to your technical queries.

I understand that you are facing issue while printing in color, need not worry I'll be glad to assist you.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Are you using genuine Hp ink cartridge?

Is copy working in color?

Have you done any hardware changes in the printer?

However, I suggest you do a Hard Reset

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.

(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Clean the ink cartridges

  1. On the control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setupicon.

  2. Swipe up on the display, and then touch Printer Maintenance.

  3. Touch Clean Cartridges, and then touch Continue.

A Print Quality Diagnostic page prints.

  4. Examine the Print Quality Diagnostic page.

    • If the print quality is unacceptable, touch Clean Again to continue the next level of cleaning. Repeat these steps for the third cleaning stage, if necessary.

         NOTE:

If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes before you perform both levels of cleaning again.

    • If the print quality is acceptable, touch Done. You can stop troubleshooting.

If the print quality is unacceptable, Use this link: https://hp.care/2keN3CX for further troubleshooting steps.

Keep me posted, how it goes! However, I'll try and follow up in next 24 to 48 hours to doublecheck on the issue.

Thank you for the prompt response. The 7155 is new out of the box, new ink cartridges. As this is my 86 yr old mother's printer.  She will do a color scan/copy and get back to me.  Please be patient, I'll repost the results.

The problem is not solved. We still cannot print in color from the computer. We performed the hard reboot as suggested. Also, we are able to copy in color. The test print from the HP printer did print in color. So I suspect there is some setting in MacOSX that I'm not seeing, or there is a USB cable issue??

@Mink11,

It looks like you were interacting with @Raj1788, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out,
I'm the Jeet_Singh & I'm at your service.

As you have mentioned in your post that you are able to make a copy as well as print a test page, which clearly shows this could be a software/driver confilct. In this scenario, I would suggest you to remove the printer from the queue and add it as a Airprint.

  1. Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

Figure : Example of the Printers & Scanners window

Example of the Printers & Scanners window
  2. Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, and then do one of the following steps.

    • If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm it is set up for AirPrint. Click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer, click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed in the Add Printer or Scanner window, go to the Frequently asked questions in this document to resolve connection issues, try to add the printer again, and then continue to the next step.

  3. Confirm AirPrint or Secure AirPrint displays in the Use or Print Using menu, and then click Add.

Figure : AirPrint displays in the Use menu

Select AirPrint from the Use menu
  4. Open a document or photo, click File, and then click Print.

Alternatively, you can try to update the printer firmware,

You can also update the Firmware, you can directly update the printer firmware from the printer control panel or download the software from our HP support website,

If your printer connected wirelessly, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then follow the link to check for the latest firmware update if available for your printer, using this website.  You might need a Windows PC to run the firmware. Once done, restart the printer.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

For Mike:  Just bought mine today and had the same problem, plus the scanner did not show up.  I tried all the solutions the on line techs suggested to no avail.  Finally, looking at the display window on the printer, I noticed it said to go to [edit]..so I did and there, you will find your answer.  It walks you through it ~ downloading a driver and anything else that's needed.
