Hello. I'm getting an e3 error message on my brand new HP 7301 printer. None of the HP suggestions have enabled me to clear it. There was a paper jam, but I know that is resolved. Also, when I am able to print, there are two small creases at the top of each printed page. Help?

Hi @APMath,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check for Any Remaining Paper Debris:

  • Power Off the Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Open All Access Areas: Open the input tray, output tray, and any other areas where paper might travel.
  • Inspect for Debris: Carefully inspect for any small bits of paper or debris that may be stuck in the paper path. Use a flashlight if necessary.
  • Remove Debris: Remove any remaining debris or paper scraps.

Inspect the Paper Path:

  • Rollers: Check the paper rollers inside the printer for dirt or damage. Clean them using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Paper Guides: Ensure that the paper guides are aligned correctly and that they are not too tight against the paper. Misaligned guides can cause crumpling and may contribute to the E3 error.

Verify Paper and Media Type:

  • Paper Quality: Use high-quality paper that meets the printer's specifications.
  • Paper Loading: Ensure the paper is loaded correctly, aligned properly, and not exceeding the maximum paper capacity.

Perform a Printer Reset:

  • Power Cycle: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug It In: Plug the printer back in and turn it on. This might clear the E3 error.

Check for Firmware Updates:

Kindly refer to this link to update your printer firmware.

Inspect the Crease Issue:

  • Test Print: Print a test page to see if the creases still appear. If they do:
  • Paper Path Inspection: Inspect the paper path again for obstructions or damaged parts that might be causing the creases.

Use Manual Cleaning:

  • Manual Cleaning: If the issue persists, perform a manual cleaning of the printer's interior parts. Refer to the printer's user guide for detailed instructions on manual cleaning.

I hope this helps.
