HP ENVY Photo 7855 All-in-One Printer

Printer stays stuck on first dot after powering printer on. No buttons work, including the power button. I attempted to reset but issue remains. I know I am out of warranty but want to get this issue fixed because printer has been very good besides this problem.

Hi @ro_chann562,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP 7855 Printer is frozen and none of the buttons are working, there are several troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Power Cycle: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. This action can reset the printer and may resolve any temporary glitches.
  • Check for Paper Jams: Open the printer's access panels and check for any paper jams. If you find any, carefully remove the jammed paper, following the printer's manual instructions. Sometimes, paper jams can cause the printer to malfunction.
  • Update Firmware: Visit HP's official website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model. Updating the firmware can address known issues and improve performance.
  • Factory Reset: If the printer remains unresponsive, you may need to perform a factory reset to revert all settings back to their defaults. However, note that this will erase any custom settings you may have configured.
  • Disconnect from Network: If your printer is connected to a network, try disconnecting it from the network temporarily. This will help identify if any network-related issues are causing the problem.
  • Check Ink/Toner Cartridges: Ensure that the ink or toner cartridges are properly installed and not empty. Some printers may freeze or not respond if there's an issue with the cartridges.
  • Test without a Computer: Try performing some basic operations directly from the printer's control panel without any connection to a computer. For example, try to make a photocopy or print a test page using the printer's onboard menu.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello Alden,

I have checked for paper jams and checked printer cartridges, no issues there. Unable to update firmware, disconnect from network, and test without computer as no buttons are working on the panel here. As mentioned, screen loads only to HP logo and stays at first dot. Powercycled multiple times, issue still remains.

Factory reset of some kind may be whats needed but will need info on how to do with the issue of buttons not working.
