I have a laser jet pro MFP M281cdw printer connected to a Mac. The printer is on and it keeps resetting with an error "79 service error". Yesterday, it installed an update and not I have this error.  I have tried everything and nothing is working.  Please help. thanks

I had exact issue of Serve error 79 and the loop of printer starting and stopping :

We had to turn off the router first, then I was able to get out of the loop and into the Setup screen on printer. I turned off all the Wifi and wifi direct settings. Do not use your ethernet cable because that goes through the router.  I had to connected the the printer directly to the laptop with the cable on top back connection of the printer. I now have a working printer it is connected and works. I ran the print and scan doctor to fix it so my scanner would work.

I am not very technical, so I apologize if instructions may be incomplete.

Also had the 79 Service Error message begin popping up on 11/11.   Nothing has helped--scan doctor won't run because printer is off line.  Re-booted computer; re-started Xfinity modem box, disconnected cables, bought  NEW cable at Best Buy and it still won't get back on-line.   Will now try the procedures spelled out below from 11/2.  Seems that it's the result of an update somewhere, not cables or modems.
