I am at my wit's end with this.  I keep getting a "79 Service error" and the printer just keeps initializing over and over.  For 2 days now.  The only way I can get it to print is if I connect with a USB cable and do it  without connecting the printer to the wireless network.  Needless to say, this is not acceptable.  Any suggestions?  I have read here that it is a firmware problem surrounding an Oct 2020 firmware update but can't seem to get around this. Is the fact that we have a google nest wifi system part of the issue?  Everything was fine until 2 days ago.  HELP!!!

More info: if I disable both IPv6 and IPv4, the printer will stay connected to the network (and pass the printer's wireless network test) without giving me the "79 service error." However, my Mac and devices can't find the printer on the network.  So basically no improvement.  In sum, I have a printer that cannot print wirelessly.

This just became a problem for me yesterday.  So frustrating.

Started on my printer yesterday as well (18.04.2021), when I disconnect the network cable, printer stays on but once I reconnect it, the vicious cycle starts again. I have M281fdn model, no WiFi on this one. Disabling IPv4 and IPv6 helps but then I cannot connect to it.

Hi,
Having the same trouble, and mine reboots each 3 o 4 min.
I've just disable IPv4 and IPv6 to try this and waiting for the result... At now (a few minutes) seems to be a (very bad) way. I get this error only since 20 of april 2021.

Solved for mine. Steps:

All above (invalid IPv4 an IPv6 on the panel)
+
Windows 10: deleted HP app & deleted driver
Reboot of windows
Conect USB to M281
Install windows 10 driver (by windos update)
Install HP app (by Windows store).
At this point, windows didn't allow yet to print neither setup the printer, so I reboot the PC one more time.

Conect to the printer by HP app

Allowed again IPv4

For more than 1h, I don't get any message/reboot/error anyway.
