HP Color LaserJet M283dfw and 79 Service Error. Windows 10 64bit 22H2
I tried all the fixes on this site including reattaching the printer using USB and then had to share on the network OK.
The error stopped when I had only connected via usb.
I came back to troubleshooting because I could not scan from a second pc.
I finally had the router and everything on the network turned off including a TP-Link WiFi Extender and the error stopped.
Plugged everything back in one at a time and last thing that I did not plug in was the extender.
So I think the problem was in the extender, but I did not plug it back in for fear the trouble would come back.
I noticed that the extender had an amber led turned on.
I hope this helps someone else.

Hi @bnfoat,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Product. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.
It seems like you've done some troubleshooting already, and you've identified that the TP-Link WiFi Extender might be causing interference or connectivity issues with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw printer, resulting in the 79 Service Error. Here’s how you can proceed:
- Confirm Extender Status: The amber LED on the TP-Link WiFi Extender typically indicates a connectivity issue or that it's not properly synced with your router. Make sure to check the extender's manual or online resources to understand what the LED status means exactly.
- Reconfigure Extender: If possible, try to reconfigure the TP-Link WiFi Extender. This involves resetting it to factory settings and setting it up again with your router. Ensure that during setup, it connects properly and doesn't show any amber LED status indicating connectivity issues.
- Check Placement: Ensure that the extender is placed in an optimal location where it can receive a strong signal from your main router. Weak signals can cause intermittent connectivity problems.
- Network Interference: WiFi extenders can sometimes interfere with nearby devices, including printers. If reconfiguring doesn’t solve the issue, consider relocating the extender to minimize interference with your printer.
- Update Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for both your TP-Link WiFi Extender and your HP printer. Sometimes, updates can resolve compatibility issues or bugs that cause connectivity problems. Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Network Settings: Verify that your network settings are correct, especially if you’re using the extender to manage your network. Ensure that the extender is not causing IP conflicts or other network configuration issues that could affect the printer’s communication.
- Test Connectivity: After reconfiguring or adjusting the extender, test the connectivity of your HP printer from both the PC that directly connects via USB and any other PCs on your network. Ensure scanning and printing functionality works as expected without triggering the 79 Service Error.
If the problem persists after these steps, consider consulting with TP-Link support for further assistance regarding the extender’s compatibility
