HP Color Laser Jet Pro MFP M283cdw. I am getting the "79 Service error" message. At first, it also said I had a paper jam, and I did find a jam and removed the jammed paper.
Occasionally I get a paper jam, but whenever I try to print, I just receive the "79 Service error. Turn off and then on" and the printer restarts.
I have followed all the relevant instructions from the HP Community, including unplugging from power and from the network, and turning off the network connection in the machine. I also updated the firmware.
Kindly advise as to what to do. The printer is under a year old.

@The_Interpreter, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding "79 Service Error" on HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
The "79 Service Error" on the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw usually indicates a firmware issue or an internal error in the printer. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:
Restart the Printer:
- Turn off the printer using the power button.
- Disconnect the power cable.
- Wait for at least 30 seconds and reconnect the power cable.
- Turn the printer back on.
Check Printer Queue:
- Ensure there are no print jobs stuck in the queue. Clear all pending jobs from the computer or network.
Update Firmware:
- Ensure the printer's firmware is up to date. You can download the latest firmware from the HP Official Website.
- Install the firmware update by following the instructions provided with the download.
Reset Network Settings:
- If the issue persists, try disconnecting the printer from the network and printing via a direct USB connection to see if the error remains.
Inspect for Paper Jams:
- Since you initially had a paper jam, double-check that no small pieces of paper remain inside the printer, especially around the rollers and the input/output paths.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Unfortunately, none of these remedies worked, not unlike disconnecting the power cable for over 45 minutes and disabling IPv6.
After talking with HP Support personnel for the past two days, the official diagnosis was that the .pdf file I was trying to print had some sort of incompatibility with the printer's software.

@The_Interpreter, Thanks for the update, and I'm really sorry to hear you're still dealing with this frustrating issue.
You're absolutely right—sometimes a corrupt or incompatible print file (like a PDF with certain fonts or settings) can trigger the 79 Service Error. It’s great that you’ve already worked with HP Support and narrowed it down.
As a workaround, you might try:
Printing the PDF from a different application (e.g., opening it in a browser or another PDF viewer).
Converting the PDF to a different format (like JPEG) before printing.
Printing a different document to confirm it's specific to that file.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
