Installed new ink cartridges into HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e about an hour ago and have been stuck in "validating...please wait" process. Reinstalled the cartridges 3 times. Powered off/on 2 times. Unplugged, waited 60 seconds and plugged back on twice. HELP!

Hi @rneilb,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding printer stuck on validating!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these troubleshooting Steps :
Check Cartridge Compatibility
- Ensure that you're using genuine HP ink cartridges and not third-party or refilled cartridges.
- Verify that the installed cartridges are compatible with the HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e:
- HP 910 (Standard)
- HP 910XL (High Yield)
- HP 916XL (Region-specific)
If you are using non-HP or incompatible cartridges, replace them with genuine HP ink.
Reseat the Ink Cartridges
- Open the printer’s ink cartridge access door.
- Remove all ink cartridges.
- Check for any protective tape still attached to the cartridges—DO NOT touch the copper contacts or ink nozzles.
- Firmly reinstall each cartridge in its correct color-coded slot.
- Close the access door and wait for validation.
Perform a Power Reset
- With the printer powered on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Unplug from the wall outlet.
- Wait 2-3 minutes.
- Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds (if applicable).
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
This will clear any temporary firmware glitches.
Check for Blockages in the Printhead Area
- Open the printer's ink cartridge access door.
- Check for any paper debris, dust, or ink residue around the printhead and cartridge area.
- Clean the electrical contacts:
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently wipe the gold contacts on both the ink cartridges and the printhead.
- Let everything dry for 2 minutes, then reinstall the cartridges.

Update Printer Firmware
If the printer is connected to Wi-Fi:
- Open the HP Smart App or go to the printer’s touchscreen menu.
- Navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.
If the printer is frozen, update the firmware using a USB connection via a PC:
- Download the latest firmware from HP's support website.
Perform a Semi-Full Reset (If issue persists)
⚠ This will reset the printer to factory settings
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Press and hold the Power button + Back button (or Wi-Fi & Cancel buttons) together.
- While holding the buttons, plug the printer back in.
- Continue holding for 10-15 seconds until the screen displays "Reset" or "NVM Reset."
- Release the buttons and allow the printer to restart.
Let me know how it goes. 😊
