HP Officejet Pro 8610
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am a subscriber to HP Instant Ink and recently (a couple of weeks ago) installed the first Instant Ink cartridges. I received an email stating that my Instant Ink account now activated so all appeared to be going well.

Everything worked okay but a few days ago I started getting a Windows dialogue box, "Please Connect Printer to HP Connected." This happens whenever I try to print a document, regardless of the document type. The dialogue box appears on the computer and, at the same time, a message pops up on the printer that says "Connect printer to update HP Instant Ink status." Before it will print, I have to hit "Okay" on the printer or click "Okay" on the computer. Doing either of these will allow it to print the document.

When printing from a second Windows 10 computer, I see the message on the printer but not the dialogue box on the computer.

If I hit the help button on the dialogue box, it takes me to the "HP Smart" web site. Upon logging in, I see my printer and it's status just fine (number of pages, cartridge descriptions, etc.).

I recently uninstalled the printer & software, and re-installed it on the computer in order to resolve an issue with duplex printing always flipping on the short edge.

I ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor to no avail.

Any ideas?

Hi @pghtechie

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Try rebooting the devices -

1) Turn off the Router, Printer, and the computer/ mobile devices.

2) Wait for 60 seconds.

3) Turn on the Router first and wait for all the lights to stabilize.

4) Turn on the printer and allow it to configure itself.

5) Turn on the computer/ mobile devices.

Also, try updating the printer's firmware. Refer to this document for steps - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

If the issue still persists, try re-enabling the Web-Services -

Step 1 Remove the Web-Services -

1. From the top of the screen, touch or swipe down the tab to open the Dashboard, touch ( HP ePrint ), and then touch (Web Services Settings).
2. Touch Remove Web Services.

Reboot the devices.

Step 2 Enable the Web-Services -

1. From the top of the screen, touch or swipe down the tab to open the Dashboard, and then touch ( Setup ).
2. Touch Web Services Setup .

3. Touch Accept to accept the Web Services terms of use and enable Web Services.
4. On the screen that appears, touch OK to allow the printer to automatically check for product updates.

5. If the Printer Update Options screen is displayed, select one of the options.
6. When the printer is connected to the server, the printer prints an information page. Follow the instructions on the information page to finish the setup.

Once you have the "Claim Code", login to the Instant Ink account. Click on the notifications or the bell icon and then click on "Add Printer".

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Asmita,

Rebooting was of no help.

Firmware was up to date already.

Looks like removing and adding web services was the fix, although your instructions weren't quite exactly accurate for me. But I did manage to get it working.

Thanks!
