Every time i try to print I receive the message "Connect printer to update HP Instant Ink status." Won't print unless I touch "OK" I do not have Instant Ink, although the previous owner did. I've installed a complete set of retail cartridges., so at least it does print. PC and printer are directed connected via USB cord; don't have wireless.
It had stopped printing altogether when it still had instant ink cartridges in it - I later saw that they were expired, as well as the spares that the previous owner had given me, ( why did he have spares, if ink is sent as needed?) which is probably why it had stopped printing or copying.
Network services is turned off.
What's the problem now?

Welcome to HP Support Community,
When did you place a request to cancel the Instant ink service. Did you get any email confirmation.
Have you tried to login to the Instant ink account page and check if the account is still active/suspended/cancelled.
You can’t use HP Instant Ink cartridges after you cancel your service. Why? Because Instant Ink is an alternate way to print, where you pay for the pages you print, not for ink cartridges. Just as with a cell phone plan you can only make calls as long as you are enrolled with your cell provider, you can only print with Instant Ink cartridges while you are enrolled in an Instant Ink plan. If you cancel, you must buy regular ink cartridges to resume printing.
If the issue persists, I would suggest you remove the ink cartridges from the printer and then perform a hard reset.
Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove USB cable, if present.
Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.
Let me know how it goes for further assistance!

As I say, I am not the original owner of this printer. The previous owner had Instant Ink. I never signed up for it, therefore I have no account to cancel. I went to the Instant Ink website and was able to sign in using my normal login info. Then the site took me straight to the "sign up" page.
I tried the hard reset you suggested, which did not cure the problem. The touch screen still asks me to connect or press OK, every time I print.
Is there somewhere in the programs on the touch screen where I can turn it off?
