Cannot use the printer display because low ink screen won't cancel when clicking 'Ok'. Any fixes?

I'm replying to my own post with an inelegant fix in case it is helpful. If anyone can do better I'd be grateful.

So I tried disabling the low ink alert via the app and that doesn't work either. I just want to use the printer screen, HP is pretty determined that I see an immovable message promoting HP instant ink! However, if you open the front door it removes the alert (and gives you a door open warning instead) but from this position you can get access to some of the other screen functions. I then changed the low ink alert default setting (which was set at 20% ink left) to 1% for each color.

Now I can use the printer display to do simple tasks that really shouldn't need a computer e.g. copying a document. None of this is possible when I have the low ink alert, except via the computer,  because the screen is effectively disabled by the marketing messages. Pretty irritating. I now won't get low ink alerts until it almost too late, but at least I can use the printer as intended. Maybe someone at HP can fix this bug, you might be promoting HP ink, but I won't be buying another HP printer.

This is absolutely brilliant - thank you GN11! I was also in the middle of a new router masscree so this saved the day. I set the colors  to 5 and the black to 10.

What on earth is HP doing about a fix for this bug. My printer is unable to even do basic copy as a result of this. Rediculous.

Sort it please. Soonest!!!

I've gotten this to work as well, tricking it by opening the door choosing my options (scan/print/etc) and then closing the door again. This is a very clear bug where the OK button simply doesn't dismiss the messages. I touched all over and I can hear a sound effect when tapping the button, so the touchscreen is working and the software recognizes I'm tapping the button because if I tap elsewhere it doesn't make a sound. But no amount of tapping the OK button dismisses the message.
