@loz1204,

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I see from your post that you are getting carriage jam error message on your HP Printer. No worries, I'll be glad to help you.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

What is the product number of the printer? Use this link to find it:  https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03754824  (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).

Have you checked for any obstructions inside the printer?

Are you able to move the carriage freely?

Could you please respond to this post with the details as this will help me in further assisting you.

Eagerly waiting for your response!
Regards,

The printer is an HP officejet H470.  I cleared the paper jam but the carriage will not budge.  It does not move freely if pushed and all I get if I turn it is a noise that suggests it  is trying to move but cannot.

@loz1204,

It's great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.

After reviewing the details, I would personally suggest this looks like a possible hardware failure. However, I would suggest you try these steps here:

Please make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Next thing, I would suggest here is to follow the steps suggested in the support document for - The Carriage is Stuck for HP Officejet H470, H470b, H470wbt, H470wf Printers

If you have followed the steps suggested and still having the issue, I would suggest this could be a possible hardware failure.

I will share you a private message with details. Please watch your inbox for more information.

Let me know if this helps!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂
