Hello HP community. Could you guide me to do a hard reset of the admin password please? My Laserjet Pro MFP M225dw was stored after Covid closure of my office and I simply do not remember it now that I need to use the machine again.
I thank you in advance for your help!

Hi @JorgeSuazo,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To reset the admin password on your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw, you’ll likely need to perform a cold reset or a restore to factory settings. Please note that this will reset all configurations, including network settings, so you may need to reconfigure the printer afterward.
Here’s a step-by-step guide:
Restore Factory Defaults (Cold Reset)
- Turn off the printer.
- Press and hold the right arrow button and the Cancel (X) button at the same time.
- Turn on the printer while continuing to hold these buttons.
- Keep holding the buttons until the HP logo appears on the display, and then release the buttons.
- The printer should enter Administrator mode and perform a cold reset, clearing the password and restoring the default settings.
Using the Embedded Web Server (EWS)
If you have network access to the printer and can still reach its web interface:
- Open a web browser and enter the printer’s IP address to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
- Look for the Reset Factory Settings or Restore Defaults option, usually under System or Administration settings.
- Select the reset option to clear the admin password and restore default settings.
After the reset, you can reconfigure your printer as needed. Let me know if you need help setting it up again.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
