Hi @babs072,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP OfficeJet 3830 is connected to the network properly, given that you can print from your iPhone and use the scanner function on your Mac. However, there's a communication issue between your Mac and the printer specifically for print jobs.

Here are several troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve this issue:

Check Printer Status on Mac:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your HP OfficeJet 3830 from the list of printers. Ensure it's set as the default printer and check its status. If it's showing as offline or paused, resume the printer.

Reset the Printing System:

  • In Printers & Scanners, right-click (or Control-click) in the list of printers and select Reset printing system....
  • This will remove all printers, and you'll need to add your HP OfficeJet 3830 again. After resetting, click the + button to add your printer.

Re-add the Printer:

  • Ensure your printer is turned on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Mac.
  • Click the + button in Printers & Scanners, select your HP OfficeJet 3830 from the list, and click Add.

Update Printer Drivers and Software: Software and Drivers for HP OfficeJet 3830 All-in-One Printer series

  • Visit the HP support website and download the latest drivers for the HP OfficeJet 3830 for macOS.
  • Install the drivers and software to ensure you have the most recent updates.

Check Printer Queue:

  • Sometimes, print jobs can get stuck in the queue. Open Printers & Scanners, select your printer and click Open Print Queue.
  • Clear any stalled print jobs and try printing again.

Check Network Settings:

  • Ensure your Mac and printer are on the same network segment. Sometimes, guest networks or different SSIDs can cause issues.
  • Verify the IP address of your printer (found in the printer's network settings) and try pinging it from your Mac to check connectivity.

Firewall and Security Settings:

  • Ensure that your Mac's firewall or any security software isn't blocking communication with the printer. You can temporarily disable the firewall to test this.

HP Smart App:

  • Download and install the HP Smart app from the Mac App Store. This app can help manage your printer and troubleshoot issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
