Hi @Nikki0716,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP DeskJet 4255e printer is showing Error Code 8 even though it’s only a year old. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

a. Power Reset

With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.

Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Wait for 60 seconds.

Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid using surge protectors).

Reconnect it to the printer and power it back on.

b. Check for Cartridge or Carriage Issues

Open the ink cartridge access door.

Wait until the carriage moves to the center.

Remove both cartridges and check for any ink buildup, tape on the contacts, or debris.

Gently clean the copper contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.

Reinsert the cartridges firmly until they click into place.

c. Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions

Turn off the printer and unplug it.

Open all access doors (input tray, output area, and rear access door if available).

Remove any jammed or torn paper.

Spin the rollers gently with your fingers to ensure they move freely.

d. Perform a Hard Reset

With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall.

Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds to drain any residual power.

Plug it back in and turn it on again.

I hope this helps.
