Microsoft Windows 11

I have an HP 5530. As title of post says, the pages it prints are massively out of whack, and I cannot get the alignment page to scan (it says it has not been detected - tried backing the alignment page with another piece of paper and nothing!).

Any help, please?

Hi @Katmuss,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check the Paper and Print Quality:

  • Ensure you are using clean, plain white paper. Avoid colored paper or any used paper for the alignment process.
  • Ensure the paper is loaded correctly and is not wrinkled or curled.

Clean the Scanner Glass:

  • Dust or dirt on the scanner glass can lead to alignment page detection failures.
  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Lift the scanner lid and clean the scanner glass using a soft, lint-free cloth moistened with a mild glass cleaner. Do not spray the cleaner directly on the glass.

Load the Alignment Page Properly:

  • Place the printed alignment page face down on the right-front corner of the scanner glass. There might be indicators on the scanner to guide the correct positioning.

Re-initiate the Alignment Process:

  • Access the printer’s control panel menu, usually under maintenance or settings, and select the option to align the printer.
  • Follow the instructions to print a new alignment page and then scan it as directed.

Check for Any Obstructions:

  • Open the printer and check if there are any obstructions inside that could be interfering with the scanner or the paper path.

Perform Printhead Cleaning:

  • Sometimes, printhead alignment issues can be due to dirty printheads.
  • Access the printer's maintenance settings or tools and initiate the printhead cleaning process.

Firmware and Software Update:

  • Ensure that your printer firmware and software are up to date. You can check for updates on the HP website or via the HP Smart app.

Try a Power Cycle:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug the power cord, wait for 60 seconds, and then plug it back in and turn on the printer.

I hope this helps.
