I am just about to return this printer as it does not work as required. I am trying to print black ink onto glossy paper but it smudges.
Each time I use it, I have to change all settings. Useless. Even change it to 'other' glossy paper - still smudges. Now I have tried to change it to "print using system dialogue" and spend another few minutes changing the settings to Grayscale using CMYK black. THEN I have to spend another few minutes going to more settings which takes me to HP Universal, then I have to change the paper to other glossy. Sends to the printer and it just comes up with an error.
What a waste of time.

Kuroi_Kenshi is away for now; however, I'm Hawks_Eye, and I'll be happy to help you out!
Thanks for sharing the printer details.
Let's work through this step by step to address the smudging issue and the errors you're encountering:
Step 1: Check Paper Compatibility
- Ensure that the glossy paper you're using is compatible with your printer. Refer to your printer's manual or specifications to confirm the recommended paper type and weight.
- If the paper is too thick or not designed for your printer, it can cause smudging.
Step 2: Adjust Print Settings
- Open the Print dialog box in your application.
- Select Properties or Preferences (this might vary depending on your software).
- Set the Paper Type to the exact type of glossy paper you're using (e.g., HP Advanced Photo Paper).
- Adjust the Print Quality to a higher setting, such as Best or Photo.
- Enable Grayscale Printing if you're printing in black and white.
Step 3: Update Printer Firmware and Drivers
- Visit the HP Support website and search for your printer model.
- Download and install the latest firmware and drivers for your printer.
- Restart your computer and printer after the updates.
Step 4: Clean the Printhead
- Access the Printer Maintenance menu from your printer's control panel or software.
- Run the Printhead Cleaning utility to ensure the nozzles are clear and functioning properly.
Step 5: Test with Different Paper
- Try printing on a different brand or type of glossy paper to see if the issue persists.
- If the problem resolves, the original paper might not be suitable for your printer.
Step 6: Use HP Smart App
- Download the HP Smart App from the Microsoft Store or your device's app store.
- Use the app to adjust settings and troubleshoot issues more efficiently.
