Hello!  I have an HP Officejet Pro 8715 that I've owned for the better part of five years or more, and just received a message that there's a problem with the supply system.  The black 'K' cartridge appears to have leaked into its housing and when I replace it with a full cartridge, it gives me a message that says to replace the black 'K' cartridge.  It doesn't appear to register the new cartridge at all.  I've tried reinserting the original cartridge and the supply system message pops on again.  Can this be repaired or should I just purchase a new printer?  Thank you for whatever help you can provide.

Ink leaks are caused either by a bad cartridge or a failed seal. If the leak only affects one cartridge and not the other then it is likely a cartridge issue. The challenge may be in getting all the already spilled ink out of the printer so it does not interfere with electronics, as ink on the contacts may be the reason your new cartridge is not working. For myself, on a five year old printer I would be hesitant to invest too much in repairs.

Thanks very much for your response to this issue. We may try to clean out the cartridge housing before contemplating the purchase of a new printer.
