I had a problem where the black ink cartridge was dried out at the holes and wouldn't print. I soaked it in water / alcohol and got it to work and it printed fine, but, 4 days later, it was dried out again.

Soaking in water / alcohol fixed it, but, maybe the problem is where the print heads park. Isn't there a sponge or something there?

What can i do to fix?

thanks

ps, the color ink prints fine with out any soaking or other thing needed. Also, these are HP ink cartridges. I purchased the printer new around Feb 2016.

Thank you!:)

I would suggest trying these steps here: Fixing Print Quality Problems

If that doesn't seem to help. I would recommend calling phone support directly to see if they can replace the cartridge that's drying out. The HP cartridges shouldn't be drying out that quick.

Welcome to the HP Community @Al_Seattle!

I'd like to help with the issue you're having. Please clarify what the problem is with the printer. I am unsure if there's a problem with the black printing, or if it's something else going on.

I'll do my best to help when I know more about the issue!:)

Thank you:D

thanks RB,

The problem is that the black dries out after a few days and won't print. I don't use the printer everyday, but, it shouldn't dry out after only 4 days.

Originally, I didn't print for a couple of months. Did the cleaning cycle a few times and the colored ink started printing ok, but, the black did not. After soaking the print head (ink cartridge) in water/alcohol, it worked, but, now keeps clogging (drying out) after a few days of no printing.

I was thinking there might be an issue where the print head parks when not printing, but, I haven't checked (not even sure I can).

thanks again

Thanks, I called the support team and they are sending a new ink cartridge. If that doesn't work, sounds like they'll replace the printer since it's still under warranty.
