Hi,

I am using my HP 8600 plus for years without any problems. I always used genuine ink cartridges. Last week after exchanging the empty black, I cannot print anymore, as the printer does not recognise the cartridge. I bought a second one, same result. I suppose it has to do with the new firmware and region. I am using z20. Please advise how to solve this.

Thanks

@Dascha

Are you using the same Cartridge No as the old one?

I suggest you remove the cartridges, clean the electrical contacts with Lint-Free cloth and perform a Printer Reset

- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and from the wall outlet or power strip.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to a wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
- The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
- Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Next ensure the printer has the latest Firmware update and put back the cartridges. You can refer to this Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02919168

Hi Krazy Toad,

As of what I understand, this is a problem caused by HP. Since the moment I bought a new cartridge with Z20 marked on it, the printer refuses to work. So it has to do with region settings! How do I solve this? And do not tell me the usual stuff, this all does not solve the issue.

Regards

Did you purchase the printer from another country or did you move to another country?

Are they the same cartridge numbers you were using earlier?

I got the printer in Mauritius and I am using it in Mauritius. The problem started the moment when on the cartridge appeared the additional information z20.

@Dascha

Indeed your printer uses the Z20 cartridge and you are using the correct cartridge number

| suggest you perform a Semi Full Reset to restore the printer back to it's original factory condition

Since these steps are specific to your printer, I have sent you a private message with the next course of action

Please check your private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile.

Next to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope

Thank you

On the front panel of the printer go to the home screen and press the ink droplet icon at the top of the screen.  Next touch the black rectangle that indicates the ink level.  At this point a new window will open that says "installed cartridge" and "Supported cartridge".  What are the cartridge numbers listed?

HP introduced regionalized cartridges (Z10, Z20, Z30 and Z40) for the previously universal 950/951 cartridges in about January 2017.  The printer will "lock" itself to the first Zxx cartridge installed in the printer. For your region the -Z20 is correct, but if at any time in the past a -Z10, -Z30 or -Z40 cartridge was installed the printer would have locked itself to that region.  In that case you will need to have HP perform a "Regionalization Reset".  You will need to Contact HP to request a "Regionalization Reset". There should not be any charge for this, it is covered as part of the cartridge warranty. You will need to have access to your computer and printer while on the line with HP. You will also need to have a set of cartridges for the new region (or universal cartridges before the -Z markings were implemented), once the reset is complete cartridges from the original region will no longer work.  HP's web page on the subject is here.

I have seen users reporting success getting the regionalization reset done through the HP Facebook Support page here: https://www.facebook.com/HPSupport/

Hi, I have done a semi and a full reset, no change. I tried to contact HP support, they give me a number in Egypt that does not work! This is my last try to get the printer reset for the new Z20 cartridges. I even cannot access the home menu as it is blocked by the message: "There is a problem with printer or ink. Call HP". This is a problem that is worldwide, have found thousands of complaints on the net. What support center can do the hp 8600 regionalisation reset. I am in Mauritius.

I still hope for a correct answer as I dont want to dump a fully functional printer! Or is this what HP has in mind? This is so upsetting!

@Dascha, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

In which region did you purchase the printer?

HP customizes some printers and ink cartridges to meet local customer needs. If you take your printer from one country/region to another country/region, you might not find ink cartridges with the same number on the label as your original ink cartridges. If you install an ink cartridge with a different number on the label, you might see one of the following error messages:

  • Incompatible Cartridges

  • Cartridge Not Intended for this Printer

  • Incorrect Cartridges

Regionalization reset can be performed on the printer if you are able to access the home screen. Since you are not able to bypass the error message, a reset would not work.

Keep me posted for further assistance.

Dear Kumar0307,

you must be joking, not helpful at all! give me at least a working service contact number that I can reach from Mauritius to do the region reset!

Otherwise I have to say that HP has NO ecological ethics!!
