HP ENVY 6055e All-in-One Printer

Black ink looks smudged. Tried all alignment/cleaning options. I wiped the cartridge with a microfiber cloth. The firmware is up to date. Correct ink cartridge is installed. Color ink looks fine. Any solutions?

Hi @DFinny ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's unfortunate to hear that you're experiencing smudging issues with the black ink on your HP ENVY 6055e All-In-One Printer. Let's go through some additional troubleshooting steps to try and resolve the problem:

Check Paper Quality: Ensure that you are using the correct type and quality of paper recommended for your printer. Low-quality or incompatible paper may contribute to smudging.

Inspect the Cartridge: Take a close look at the black ink cartridge. Check for any visible leaks or damage. If you see any issues, consider replacing the black ink cartridge with a new one.

Clean the Printhead Manually: If the automated cleaning process hasn't resolved the issue, you may try manually cleaning the printhead. Refer to your printer's user manual for specific instructions on how to clean the printhead manually.

Check Print Settings: Ensure that your print settings are configured correctly. Select the appropriate paper type and quality settings for the print job. Incorrect settings might lead to ink smudging.

Run Printer Diagnostic Tools: Many printers come with diagnostic tools that can help identify and resolve printing issues. Check your printer software or utility for any diagnostic tools that can assist in troubleshooting.

Update Printer Drivers: Make sure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. Outdated drivers can sometimes lead to printing problems.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I have performed all of these additional troubleshooting steps and am still getting the same result of smudged black ink. It started happening right after I replaced the black ink cartridge. It is the correct cartridge. Could it be a faulty cartridge?
