This started when I first got the printer almost. When it prints on any type of paper, it's like it is also putting old things that were printed on the page as well and it's just black. It's very faint, but messes up whatever I'm printing. Also, when printing it like double prints almost on the page. It's weird to explain. I've purchased new toner. I've cleaned it. I've opened it up and wiped where I thought to wipe. Nothing as worked.

Hi @karebear1125,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with ghosting and double printing on your printer. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve these problems:

1. Check Toner Cartridge

  • Install Genuine Cartridges: Ensure you're using genuine toner cartridges recommended for your printer model. Third-party or refilled cartridges might cause print quality issues.
  • Shake Cartridges: Sometimes toner can settle unevenly inside the cartridge, causing print quality problems. Remove the toner cartridge and gently shake it from side to side to redistribute the toner.

2. Inspect Drum Unit

  • Clean Drum Unit: If your printer has a separate drum unit, inspect it for any debris or toner buildup. Clean the drum unit according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Replace Drum Unit: If the drum unit is old or damaged, consider replacing it with a new one.

3. Check Printer Settings

  • Quality Settings: Ensure that the print quality settings in your printer driver are set appropriately. Lower quality settings can sometimes result in ghosting or double printing.
  • Density Setting: Adjust the toner density setting in the printer driver to see if it improves print quality.

4. Perform Maintenance

  • Run Cleaning Cycle: Most printers have a cleaning cycle function in the printer driver software. Run a cleaning cycle to clean the printer's internal components.
  • Manual Cleaning: If possible, manually clean the printer's internal components, such as the fuser unit and transfer roller, following the manufacturer's guidelines.

5. Update Printer Firmware

  • Check for Updates: Visit the HP website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve print quality issues.

6. Check Paper Quality

  • Use High-Quality Paper: Low-quality or damp paper can sometimes cause print quality issues. Ensure you're using high-quality, dry paper that is compatible with your printer.
  • Check Paper Storage: Store paper in a cool, dry place and avoid exposing it to humidity or direct sunlight.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi. Thanks for the suggestions. This still did not work. It makes the black markings on the side if it's the first print. If it's a different page, it's something from the first page that printed.
