Brand new HP Envy Pro 6420 worked perfectly for 3 days but now for the last week does not print pdfs from my Win 10 laptop - error "Out of paper" but this is not true. Have tried 25 sheets (as specified in one Troubleshooting solution).  Have tried more, less etc. but there is certainly paper in the tray.  Have printer a scanned sheet (using it like a photocopier) but it will not print from my Win 10 laptop (een though it did at first!)  Another error message said, "Cannot perform Simple pdf Print".

Have de-installed and re-installed Adobe Acrobat Reader as directed in the Trouble-shooting guide.

@Chesed

Try printing different documents like Word, email, or a web page and check if it prints.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue

Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix printing'.

If the issue persists, reinstall the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store.

Let me know how it goes.

@Chesed, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I see that you are not able to print PDF files. Were you able to make a copy from the scanner glass?

Did you try printing different documents like Word, email, or a web page and check if it prints?

This could be an issue with the Adobe app if the issue is limited to printing PDF files.

For now, perform the steps mentioned in this document - 'Out of Paper' Error, Printer Does Not Pick Up Paper

Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.

Yes, I can make a copy from the scanner glass.

The printer gives a message that it ONLY prints pdf files so "No" I did ot try to print other files.

Furthermore, it worked perfectly for a couple of days but now, when I click on "Print Documents" on the HP Smart home interface,  it goes through all the process of bringing up the Print Dialogue, accepts my inputs then brings up the print interface ... and then does nothing.  It gives the little green circle with a tick saying that the printer is ready ... but it does not make any sound or indication of working after I hit the "Print" button - just goes back to the HP Smart home interface.

Thanks Kumar0307,

I stumbled across the Print Doctor as I tried different things and of course I immediately used it and the Print Doctor got it going again - thanks.

The Print Doctor reported everything OK ... well, it had not been printing for days - but after it went through it's process, the printing ability returned to the printer. It would actrually be helpful if the Pront Doctor reported back what it did that fixed the problem.

I'm also absolutely  mystified  why I was not directed to the Print Doctor in the first place when I went to the "Help" robot - actually, the "No help at all" robot.
