I just installed a recently shipped black inkjet 902 cartridge received under the HP instant ink program a couple of weeks ago. My printer says that the cartridge is out of warranty as of *2015*. Please see attached image. Can someone please explain?

If there is no error message and the cartridge prints fine then you have nothing to be concerned about. The warranty for Instant Ink cartridges is different than that for retail cartridges since the Instant Ink cartridges remain the property of HP. If there is an actual problem with the cartridges they would be replaced.

Does the cartridge give an error message other than just the warranty is expired? What exactly is the error message? Your printer does not enforce cartridge expiration, cartridges may work fine long after the warranty.

There is no error message. However, the cartridge is defective in my opinion because it is indicating that end of warranty is three years *before* the date I received it in the mail.
In the same shipping box I have magenta, cyan, and yellow 'new' cartridges. Will they also be defective in the same manner? I won't be able to tell until I install them in the printer.
If something actually goes wrong with any of these, I won't be able to return them because they are out of warranty.
