Is the printer going into sleep mode? If not that would be one solution. If the light stays on even in sleep mode you might need to dull it with nail polish or a sticker, primitive but effective.

This is a one-day old HP Envy 6055. It’s working fine except that the light from the paper slot is bright white in the center. According to the information I have, this indicates the printer is ON in normal mode, and has a working network connection.
The issue is that at night, this light is annoyingly bright. I could cover the print slot with a dark cloth, but I’d rather be able to have a “sleep mode” that turns the lights off at night, and back on in the morning.
If I covered the indicator bar on the paper slot with electrical tape, it sure would solve the problem, but I’d have to take it off to figure out what the printer is doing, unless I use the HP Smart app.
Maybe HP can create an update to add this feature, and control it with the app.

I downloaded the HP Envy 6000 series manual, and found a useful setting for this bright light. I went into HP Smart and in the printer settings, found settings for “lights and displays”. There, I found a brightness slider, and dropped it from the middle (it has five positions) to the lowest. While changing the setting, I watched the print slot lights, and it dropped to what may be an acceptable constant level.
I think sleep mode turns the printer off completely, so that’s too extreme. I’ll see how things go with the dimmer brightness setting.
Considering I’ve had this printer just about 2 days, I’m doing pretty well. One reason is that this 6000 replaces my 4 year old HP Envy 120. HP Smart is a really useful tool for working with these printers.
