HP ENVY Inspire 7955e All-in-One Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

New HP ENVY Inspire 7955e install on macOS Monterrey ... is there a way to install a full driver without HP Smart? The printer is successfully connected to the same wifi network as the iMac. HP Smart is installed on the iMac and is able to interact with the printer. But the printers and scanner settings in macOS warn that the loaded driver is a generic one and like cannot use all printer features and, in fact, printing from various apps on the iMac doesn't work -- documents just stay I the print queue and never get to the printer.

@CaseyCMC, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I understand you are looking for a full-feature printer driver. However, a driver for this model printer is not available on the HP drivers page. You may either use the HP Smart app or the AirPrint option to print.

Do you get any errors while trying to print from the HP Smart app?

Did you download this app from the App Store?

Make sure the app is up to date.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Also, check for any software updates on Mac

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

If the issue persists, install the printer using the AirPrint option to print.

1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.

4.) Click the plus sign click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.

Note: Select "Bonjour multifunction" under kind while installing.

Try printing.

Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.

Why is no stand-alone full-featured driver made available?

What about installation just putting the printer IP address in under macOS Printers & Scanners?

what are the functional/driver option differences if installed via IP address, AirPrint, or via HP Smart?

@lccmc

The HP Smart app acts as an alternative to the full-feature driver.

Installing with the printer's IP address is not recommended as the IP address is dynamic.

Kindly install the printer via AirPrint drivers for better results if you do not wish to use the HP Smart app. There is no other option available at this time.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
