HP Office Jet 3830
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have two of the exact same HP OfficeJet 3830 printers, one at home and one on my desk at work.  Both have stopped working (I'm using my HP Envy laptop in both places).  I've uninstalled and reinstalled the printer software.  I can print an internal test page but nothing else works.  If I am in Word, my local printer clearly shows us as "Ready," and when I try to print a doc I see a box quickly flash in the middle of the screen and then it disappears.  The print job never shows up in the cue and nothing happens.  If I am in another program - like Mozilla or Firefox - everything just stalls when I try to initiate printing (meaning it gets stuck in the "preparing preview" screen).  Note that when the HP printer software was uninstalled, the frozen "preparing preview" screen does not happen.  Note that I AM able to successfully send print jobs over the network at work (that printer is down the hall though, so I want to have my local HP printer to print right at my desk).  I can't tell if this is an HP printer problem or a Windows 10 problem (it seems to be HP printer), but it happened all of a sudden - I've had the laptop and printers for a while and there were never any problems before.  Also, I refuse to upgrade to Windoze 11 - the toolbar is terrible and it's not worth learning another OS just few a few small benefits, so I'm staying on Windows 10.  Anyhow, if anyone can help I would appreciate it.  Thanks!

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,

I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor: Follow steps from the link: Click here

Root level uninstall and reinstall printer drivers

  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP OfficeJet entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

To reinstall, click here.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

When I go to Control Panel there is nothing that says "Programs and feature"

Thank you for posting back.

In windows search bar (tap windows icon once to open search bar) and type programs and feature.
Next select  Programs and feature options, and then you will see list of programs installed in that search and uninstall your printer entries.
