HP Smart Tank 7005 All-in-One
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

Hi.

At the time I bought my last HP printer in 2014, an HP Photosmart 5520, I couldn't get it to scan to my desktop, which is the same iMac I currently use but undoubtedly with an older operating system. You (HP Help) talked me through that and it's happily worked for 10 years.

But now the HP Photosmart 5520 has sadly passed away, so I spent the big bucks and bought an HP Smart Tank 7005. It is connected to my wifi. I can print from the desktop - no issue with printing and that was pretty immediate on connecting everything. I can scan on the Smart Tank from my iPhone using the HP Smart App. I can print and scan from my wife's MacBook Air using the HP Smart App, again with no issue. But I can't scan from my desktop iMac, and I can't download the HP Smart App to the desktop because the OS (High Sierra) doesn't support it and it's the most advanced OS I can get for this desktop (and it is fully up-to-date).

Every time I open the scanner, from the System Preferences - Printers and Scanners, where the HP Smart Tank is default and showing green -  I get "An error occurred while communicating with the scanner (-9923)".

I know the scanner is working - it will scan using the App on my phone. I know the printer is connected to the wifi and I can print from the iMac with the High Sierra OS; just not scan.

I have tried it via USB cable.

The router is only about 6 months old. The network in the iMac is IPv4 (not IPv6 - I saw that could be an issue on a forum).

I have followed the instructions on various help forums - turning everything on an off innumerable times.

The desk top (iMac) is our main computer. The MacBook is for travel. I don't want to update my iMac (a 27inch with a DVD player/optical reader; SD card slot - stuff you can't get now - and it's about Aust$7,000 to replace for not even the same size monitor anyway).

Do you have any advice please?

Alternatively, can I get an HP App compatible with the High Sierra Apple OS?

Cheers

Robert
