I use this printer wirelessly from a remote laptop. Yesterday I changed internet providers--from DSL to cable. I was provided with the network name and WPA password which I used to connect my laptop and smartphone to the network. I am unable to connect the printer to the network. I went to the wireless menu and did a search for and found my new network. It then asked for the WPA passphrase which I provided. The connection failed due to "invalid passphrase". I know that I entered it correctly as I did it multiple times, double checking each time. I also used HP to check that the password was the same as the one my PC uses to connect and it is. I noticed the new passphrase is 16 characters long and the old one was 14. Not sure if this matters. Also, the OJ icon in devices and printers seems to have a fixed IP address associated with it--the cable co. said this should not be fixed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Terri

No, sorry, same as Wireless Direct, which means you can connect to the Internet or connect to the printer, but not both at the same time. That is for those who do not have a router.
Follow me here. First the Gateway device your ISP 'gave' you, are you paying a monthly fee for that?
If yes, it would be best to buy you own separate modem and your own separate router that you have full control over.

I asked the cable co. tech support if I needed an IP address to connect the printer to the network and they said there was no fixed address on the router so that I should just search for the network then enter the WPA passphrase. So, from that I conclude there is no IP address for the router.

Well you should drop your cable company as they are idiots. All routers/gateways have an IP address. They have to. If your printer is set to a static IP address, it may not be on the same subnet as your router, therefore it will not connect but it will see the SSID from the router.
Reset the printer back to Factory Defaults. Reset the printer back to Network Defaults. This will set the printer back to DHCP and should connect to your router. I just wanted to make sure I know about the problem before guessing a solution.
FYI... Check the router yourself for the IP. It should be something like 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 or maybe a 10.x.x.x.
Make and model of gateway device (router)?

Router make and model number please. Not MAC address.
Download and read your router User Guide from their web site to access your router. Usually typing in the IP address of the router into your browser address bar will gain access.
You can also open a CMD window from the START button (type 'cmd' in search programs and files) and type in 'ipconfig' and see the router IP as Default Gateway.

OK, went to the wireless menu on the printer and reset wireless. Then I ran the wireless set up wizard from the panel and selected my SSID (nothing about 2.4 ghz), put in my password (16 characters, letters and numbers, which I was told is the WPA password and it is the one my PC uses to connect to the network) and once again I got the error message "invalid WPA password". I tried this 4 times. I printed out both a wireless network test report and the network configuration page. The first says that wireless is on and working and the network ssid is found but secuity fails. The second says that the network status if offline and that 802.11 wireless is disconnected. Can I reset the IP on the printer to match that of the router?

Your IPs are fine now. Your printer does not get an IP because it is not connected to the router, yet. Most likely it is your Gateway (router + modem combo) unit. These are terrible for WiFi connectivity.
To test, access your router and remove all security off your SSID temporarily. Now try to connect to your printer to your unsecured SSID. Are you successful?
If yes, go back and add WPA2-AES (PSK) to your SSID with password and try to connect again. Are you successful now?
