I have an HP Officejet Pro 6978

Product No. T0F29A

(edited)

The printer is showing error 0x6100004a. I did everything the printer instructed me to do, and I cleaned it but the code will not go away and it will not print, nor scan.

Hi @JJham06,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Error code 0x6100004a on an HP printer typically indicates a hardware issue, and it is often associated with a problem in the carriage area. Here are steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord.
  • Turn on the printer.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Open the printer cover and check for any obstructions in the carriage path. This includes bits of paper, debris, or foreign objects.
  • Make sure the carriage can move freely.

Inspect for Paper Jams:

  • Even if you don't see a paper jam, carefully inspect the entire paper path, including the input and output trays.
  • Use a flashlight to check for any small pieces of paper that might be stuck.

Reposition the Carriage:

  • Manually move the carriage to see if it moves freely. Ensure that it can travel from one side of the printer to the other without obstruction.

Clean the Carriage Rod:

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
  • Open the printer cover.
  • Locate the carriage rod (the bar that the carriage moves along).
  • Clean the carriage rod with a lint-free cloth.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer on the HP support website. Updating the firmware may resolve certain issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
