PC not communicating with printer. Sent document to print but no documents in print queue. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software but no luck. Was working OK a few days ago. Any advice would be most welcome. Thanks.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Let's run the HP Print and Scan Doctor:
Use this link for details on using the HP Print and Scan doctor: https://hp.care/2JyaC93
If the issue persists, let's do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:
Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
15.) Restart the computer.
Once done, please download and install the software from here:

Nothing seems to be working. Here’s a summary of what I’m trying to do and what I’ve done so far to resolve it with help from you guys, and thanks for being so patient. Incidentally, when I bought the printer in October last year everything was working fine.
I want to run off a very long word document ten pages at a time, double sided. I CAN click on the printer icon at the top of the page but that would give me the whole document, single sided, and I don’t want that. I CAN click on File/Print and print off each current page individually. I CAN’T do a custom print.
So what have I done so far, and most of it with your assistance, thank you. I ran off a PDF file to see if it would reset the printer. DIDN’T WORK. I uninstalled and reinstalled the printer software. DIDN’T WORK. I performed a power reset. DIDN’T WORK. I’ve got HP Print and Scan Doctor 5.3 so I ran that. “Everything checks out OK with your product. Run a test print” no thanks I’m wasting lots of ink doing that! Skip. DIDN’T WORK. I downloaded HP Print and Scan Doctor 5.3 and ran that. “Everything checks out OK with your product. Run a test print”. Skip that again. I tried printing two pages manually on both sides. DIDN’T WORK. Went to HP Smart to see what’s printing “HP Smart is unable to access print jobs for the selected printer. To view your print jobs, open Devices and Printers from the Windows Control Panel”. Nothing there and nothing printed.
I’ll now need to do a root uninstall and reinstall as advised, but my brain’s turning to mince so I’ll leave it for another day – I’m getting to old for this! I appreciate you all advising me on this and I’ll get back to you once I’ve done the root reinstall.
