After installing some critical security updates in my Win 8.1 machine, my printer wouldn't print. I uninstalled all HP 6950 files, checked Windows for corrupted files and installed HP Scan Diagnostic module. I have the correct Basic device driver filles, but half way through the installation 'The installer has encountered a problem installing there files Error Code 2753. I have tried several different solutions but still no luck. Any suggestions? I really don't want to reinstall Windows. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for letting me know. We have made some progress with the printing. 😉

I Suggest you to use the HP Scan and Capture application for scanning in Windows 8.1. This should enable the scanning.

I hope this helps. Cheers!

I see from the post that you are having issues installing the HP Printer on your Windows 8.1. Don't worry as I have a few steps which should help you resolve this issue.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started?

Have you tried to run Print and Scan Doctor?

Did you look for a solution using related forum posts?

If you haven't, Here's a related HP Forums post that seems to have helped others:  Click here for steps

Once done, I would suggest you restart the PC and then follow the link to install the latest printer drivers: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/OJ6950/OJ6950__Full_WebPack_1094.exe

Connect the USB cable only when prompted and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

I hope this should do the trick. Let me know how it goes for further assistance.

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

Thanks for your reply Jeet. No changes were made to the printer or its software by me. It stopped printing after installing several Windows critical security updates. I ran the Troubleshoot HP installation failure msi.hta utility. It recommended uninstalling  and reinstalling the software. The software I'm attempting to install is the same one you listed. I did search for related topics in this forum and Microsoft, but no luck yet. I removed all HP software and drivers, cleaned the registry, stopped and started services, removed all temp files, cleared spooler files and even tried cmd regsvr32 vbscript.dll, but no luck. It seems a fragment or something minor prevents the software from completing its installation. What do you think? I welcome your input.

I just want to clarify that when I first encountered the printer no longer printing, I did run both the Windows troubleshooting utility and the HP Print and scan utility programs. Both were unable to find a solution and that is when I uninstalled the software and attempted to reinstall it. At this point in time I am still unble to install it and consistently receive a 2753 error code. Hope that helps. I welcome anyone's input. Thanks.

Hi,

as @Jeet_singh is out of the office today, I'm replying to you. I have read your posts comprehensively and appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

I read that even now while installing the printer drivers you get a 2753 error code.

Though you have uninstalled the drivers from the registry, I suggest you to perform the following steps to uninstall the drivers from the root level:

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Now you may download and install the drivers from this link

If the error appears again then let us try to install the inbuilt printer drivers from the Windows operating system. Please refer to "Step 3: Install the print driver with the Add a Printer wizard" from this link to install the inbuilt drivers.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know what happens. Cheers! 🙂

Thanks for your suggestions.  Unfortunately I did receive another 2753 error when installing the Full webpack. Tried the manual setup and got an error Printer driver was not installed. The system cannot find file. This is quite odd.  Can I select Have disc and only load the driver files ? If so, what are their names? If not I will concede and do a clean install of Windows. Either way thank you very much.

You're welcome!

I suggest you to try the following steps before you reinstall Windows:

Try the steps mentioned under "Step 3: Install the print driver with the Add a Printer wizard". But this time, do not choose the drivers for your printer from the list. Instead, select the drivers for HP Deskjet 990c from the list and continue with the installation.

Hope this helps. All the best! 🙂

I installed 990c drivers and it does print. The 990c shows up as default printer. Thank you. My 6950 printer will copy and print but not scan. Do the 990c drivers include a scan utility or should start troubleshooting? Thank you.

I Suggest you to use the HP Scan and Capture application for scanning in Windows 8.1. This should enable the scanning.
