I want to print a spreadsheet on 8.5 x 14 or legal size paper but canno find that size option or a paper tray size. Is leagl size printing not an option on the HP Envy 6255?

The Specifications show that the size (8.5x14") is not available as a standard size.

Custom Paper Size likely supports this size.

Media sizes, custom (metric)
97.79 x 215 to 127 x 355 mm
Media sizes, custom (U.S. standard)
3.85 x 8.5 to 5 x 14 in

Note the "Print Area" is less than the full sheet size - this just means your print must have margins of a size to accommodate the maximum print area.

Maximum print area (metric)
209.9 x 349.6 mm
Maximum print area (U.S. standard)
8.26 x 13.7 in

Create your custom paper size form:

Creating Custom Paper Sizes

Custom Form

  1. Availability depends on printer model and software and Operating System / Version.
  2. If the feature is at least partially supported the Custom Setup will be available in Devices and Printers OR in Printer Preferences.
  3. If the feature is fully supported, the custom form can be created AND then used with the printer software.

  • Devices and Printers > Print Server Properties

OR

  • Printer Preferences > Print Dialog > Paper / Quality > Custom setting box

Example 1

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers >

Left-Click on your Printer one time to highlight >

Left-Click Print Server Properties (along the top ribbon)

Example 2

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers >

Right-Click on your Printer > If necessary, select printer from drop down menu / list

Printing Preferences > tab Paper/Quality > Custom

Depending on Printer Model / Software, changing the paper in the tray may require that the paper settings be adjusted on the printer control panel.

  • Open Tray > Remove existing paper, load new Paper > Check printer control panel: “Modify” > select Paper Size or “Custom” > OK

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Remove the existing paper from the Tray

Load your paper

When you close the tray, change the paper settings on the printer control panel to size "Custom"

User Guide (Chapter 2, Page 16)

Later:  When you change the paper in the tray to (re)load the regular paper, remember to set the size in the printer control panel after you close the tray drawer.

Whether you can see the custom size in the drop-down paper size list depends on the printer software AND the software you are using to create, view, and submit the job to the printer.  Paper Size is sometimes found (during job submission) under Properties / Print Preview / or other similar named method used to access the print dialog.

and / or

You can try to set the Printing Preferences for the paper size ahead of time by selecting the new custom form in Printing Preferences.  If your software supports the feature, you can create a custom shortcut for your special paper, too.

Set the Preferences

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Right-Click on your printer > Printing Preferences >

Tab Printing Shortcuts > Click / Highlight preferred shortcut > Click Apply > Click OK to exit

If the printer software supports the feature, change the settings as desired, then use “Save as” to create a Custom Shortcut.

OR

Windows key + S (search for) Printers and Scanners

Left-Click on (your) Printer > Manage >

Printing Preferences

Set “preferred settings” for paper, source (tray), other settings

Optional (if / as available): Save As > enter a name for your custom shortcut

Click OK to save the preferences

Check / Adjust the Paper at the Printer Panel

Open Printer Tray, add desired paper type

Close Tray

On the printer panel, Click Modify (wording varies), set the paper size and type, Click OK

NOTE:  If the size of the Paper Size is not in the Drop-down list, Select Custom

Out of the box, the printer driver does not provide a dropdown for legal size paper, nor does it allow you to specify a custom size. I really needed this functionality so rather than return the printer, I researched and discovered how to edit the .GPD file (Generic printer description). This file has all of the printer's paper size parameters in it, and legal size is not included. So I added it. Copy[edit]o the following location (in Windows): C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64\3 Try closing out of any print windows you have open and try printing again, you will hopefully have the option to print legal size. At least I did after I did this trick. Good luck!

@Raddp

Could you please help me with the operating system of the computer?

I suggest you do a Hard Reset on the printer

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.

(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Restart the printer.

Then, I recommend you delete the driver at the root level and Install the drivers, follow the steps below:

Remove the USB if connected

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers
