Cannot change Printing Preferences

(protection fault exception code 0xe06d7363)

 

ERROR MESSAGE...

HP ENVY 5540 series (Network) Printing Preferences

Function address ......... caused a protection fault (exception code 0xe06d7363)

The Application Property sheet page(s) may not function properly.

 

This happens whenever & wherever I try to change the Printer Preferences  - Here is a quick history of attempts...

 

Firstly, I was using the  Image Editor IrfanView.

When I accessed its  Print Dialogue  (print setup/. properties) option, the above error message was displayed.

Next, I tried the MS  basic word processor Wordpad via its Printing Preferences option. Again I got the same error message.

Next, the Windows 10 Setting App - Printers- Manage Your Device  - then Printing Preferences

results in the error message being displayed.

So I then tried accessing the Pinter via the "HP  Printer Assistant" itself where selecting Set Preferences produces the error message.

 

I have restarted the PC and also performed Windows 10 command line DISM/SFC  checks which were OK.

 

The HP virtual agent did not help.

 

I am up-to-date on the printer Software/Firmware

 

HP Print and Scan Doctor  -  Finding and Fixing problems - Reports that...

"Everything checks out ok with your product" and,

The Test Page  prints out OK.

 

I would like to print text and photos at high quality.

 

(Q) Is it advisable to re-install everything (and be able to continue with my instant ink subscription)?

If so, how can I do this complete re-install  - I cannot find that option within the HP print & scan doctor.

When I was writing my post above, I forgot to mention that I already have the HP Smart App.

I did find the HP Smart App to be useful, in that it made me aware of the HP Print & Scan Doctor download.

So it's definitely worth mentioning the HP Smart App because not everyone will have it.
