I cannot print my photos at all. I put the 4-6 photo paper into the photo tray, remove the paper from paper tray. I send photos from both Iphone and Laptop to print but nothing happens. I've tried online troubleshooting but nothing works. Error message says 'out of paper'.

Reminders:
Borderless is not supported on every printer - where supported borderless may only be available on certain paper types (For example, Photo Paper / Brochure Paper)
It is important to have the Full Feature Software / full driver installed - HP Smart supports selecting Shortcuts from the full driver.
Check Scaling options for both "Fit" and "Crop" to determine the best outcome for your photo.

Printer Software Check
Notes
If the printer software is installed, you will see the printer listed in Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features.
In addition, the installed software places two shortcut icons on the Desktop named for the printer.

Method - Use the Easy Start Wrapper to Install the Full Feature / Full Driver Software
For printers that support the option,
Use the Easy Start wrapper to install and configure the printer software.
- Home Page - HP Easy Start
- Open Category Software and Drivers
- Topic: Software-Utility
- Download-and-Save the current version of the Easy Start wrapper to install your print software
- If using USB: Disconnect the USB cable between the printer and computer before installing the software.
- Right-Click on the downloaded package and "Run as Administrator" to start the installation
- Select to install the “Full Driver” / “Full Feature Software”
- If using USB: Connect the cable when instructed to do so (near the end of the installation process).
- After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.
Notes >> Easy Start... The Journey
- Full Administrator Rights are required to complete the HP Software installation.
- About 2/3 of the way through the setup, you will be given the opportunity to select the software - select the "Full Driver" set (as opposed to the basic driver or other application).
- You can skip / ignore suggestion(s) that you add the HP Account – you’ll need the account at some point, for now, you can skip this suggestion (as many times as it insists it’s a good idea) during the full driver software installation.
- If you see it, you can skip / ignore suggestion(s) regarding Instant Ink subscription. Instant Ink subscription is NOT mandatory.
- Full driver includes print and scan functions supported by your printer and provides the printer features on which other applications / software might depend.

Hi Dragon:
Thank you so much for the detailed instructions to fix my photo printing problem. I had gone through all those steps you listed many times already except for changing the printer settings in windows. . Unfortunately after I followed your advice about this, I hoped it was the missing piece, but it still doesn’t work. Keep getting the ‘out of paper’ error message. This after changing the display to show both paper size and photo size as 4 x 6 amd again with photo size saying ‘full page’ snd paper size saying. 4x6. I removed the letter sized paper from the bottom trey when trying to print on photo paper in photo tray. I don’t know ever else to do.

You are welcome.
Updated Content
Ok.. some places to double check:
Important:
I edited my first post to update and correct the examples for Windows.
There is a bit of extra control using the Windows (or Mac OS) version of the HP Smart app.
Printer Software
Make sure the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software is installed.
Although you are using the HP Smart application, the app does benefit from having the full driver printer software installed.
In More Settings (second page of the HP Smart Windows app setup),
- Select an appropriate Shortcut for your current job or select "Everyday Printing" (or similar), then edit the settings as needed.
- Make sure you are selecting the Source (tray) as opposed to leaving it in some form of "automatic" setup.
- Heed the notes in the first post and in the example regarding paper types and borderless.
- Make sure duplex is NOT selected.
- Make sure HP Technologies is not selected (a bit above the "Borderless" bar at the bottom of More Settings page)
