I bought a HP Officejet printer 6812 several years back and it worked with everyone's devices Is  including visitors.   For the last several days it isn't recognized by any of my mobile platforms.   Investigated rebooted my router (x3) and rebooted the printer itself (x3) all to no avail.  I reset the WiFi function so that it is hooked to our home network- didn't work.  I tried searching by IP address as it is displayed on via the keypad and it still doesn't recognize it.  I entered the serial number here and it told me "warranty is expired".   I really don't worry about warranties as my truck warranty expired 6 years ago and it still runs and runs slick.   Goes in for routine maintenance twice a year and still putting  89K miles a year and not a failed part yet.

My iPad and iPhone both have the latest iOS released but still no luck.

is there a driver I need to download to my iPad and install it on the printer icon HP Smart?

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.

On the Windows machine, consider:

If you want to try a "nearly hands free" approach, try this version of the Doctor...

Offline Doctor V5.0.6

  HPPSdr_5.0.6.exe

  • Download and Save the doctor to your computer
  • Open File Explorer > Navigate to the folder in which you saved the file (likely Downloads)
  • Execute the doctor – Answer any prompts /  let the process complete
  • Restart the computer, log in, and wait for the final steps in the Doctor to finish.
  • Check for any difference.

Original Notes – Contributed by ShlomiL

Paraphrased

Connection Issues

  • Print and Scan Doctor Version 5.0.6 creates a secondary queue for printing with TCP/IP port.

After the Offline Doctor completes…

Verify / Adjust the “Default” printing device (Default Printer)

Settings > Devices > Printers and scanners

UNCHECK (clear box) Let Windows manage my default printer

Select (Left-Click) your printer from the list of printers > Manage > Set as Default

OR

Open Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Right-Click on printer > Set printer as Default

NOTES – Selecting Default Printer

  1. Do not select the printer marked as “Scan Only / DO NOT DELETE”
  2. Do not select the printer marked as “Fax”

Example Default Printer:  Set “Default” Printer = HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 series PCL-3 (Net)

ReferenceHP Printers - Printer is Offline (Windows) > Step 2: Manually set the default printer

What else?

Method - Create TCP IP port

Find printer's IP /  IPv4 address

Print a Configuration Page

OR

Tap on the wireless icon on Printer Control / Display Panel

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

Right-Click on the printer > Left-Click Printer Properties

Select Tab Ports  > Add Port

Select Standard TCP/IP Port > New Port and follow the wizard.
Use / Enter IP address for the printer.

“Note that you can ALWAYS revert back to the original port that the HP software installed by selecting the HP port under the Ports tab (in Printer Properties)”

 What else?

Consider assigning a static IP address to that printer to keep the connection from "wandering".

There are a couple of ways to do this, one of the easier methods, assuming you can connect to the printer in the first place, is to use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to view and configure your printer.

General Examples

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Network > Wired (802.3) > IPv4 Configuration

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Network > Wireless (802.11) > IPv4 Configuration

And

Tab Network > Wireless (802.11) > Advanced

HP_8630_EWS_Network_Static_IP_1HP_8630_EWS_Network_Static_IP_1HP_8630_EWS_Network_1CHP_8630_EWS_Network_1C

NOTE:

Expect the connection to break when you make and save changes - wait a while (a minute?) then open a new EWS session.

Windows...

The Full Feature Software is not the likely culprit in this case simply because the printer is refusing to be "on the network" for any device.

That said, it is possible that merely (re)setting the TCP/IP connection and setting a static IP address won't rescue the software if the printer software is corrupted, partially "lost", or otherwise "just not working".

The printer software can be completely uninstalled and then a fresh copy  of the software can be reloaded.

The Windows Full Feature Software is still available for your printer:

HP Officejet 6810/6820 e-All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers

Download and Save the installation package to your computer.

HP Smart for Mobile

The HP Smart for Mobile application is supported, though it does depend on the printer being on the network in a way that allows the application to recognize and add the printer to the application.

Setting a static IP address for the printer might help with that connection.

Side Bar:  Assuming you can get to where you can connect to the printer using the HP Smart for Mobile application, you can also reach the EWS webpage from the app.
