HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2776
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am unable to print any photo in 6x4 inches size. I choose HP Smart to print the photos. I choose the correct size (6x4) and also choose 'Shrink to Fit' or 'Crop' options. I have also measured the size of the photo paper, it is exactly 6x4 inches. What ever settings I choose, the printer does NOT print on the paper completely.

When printing in portrait mode, the bottom margin in the print is wide (exactly 1/2 inch). When I printing in landscape mode, the margin on the right side is wide (exactly 1/2 inch). What setting I am missing here?

And looks like there are other HP printers which have the same problem. And no solution has been offered yet as well.

The setup / printer is not broken requiring a solution - the odd margins are a hardware limitation of this printer.

Product Specifications for the HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2776 All-in-One Printer (7FR20A)

and

Print Margin Bottom (A4)12.7 mm
Print Margin Left (A4)3 mm
Print Margin Right (A4)3 mm
Print Margin Top (A4)3 mm

Use a program that can center the photo onto the paper evenly (horizontally and vertically).

and / or

Use a program / application that supports selecting the Preferences / More Settings / Properties >> printing Shortcut

OR

Use a program that lets you adjust the margins to 1/2 inch on all sides.

What else?

Regardless, and for any application / software you decide to use, make sure you have installed the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software for the printer.

Details / Additional Information / Example

The Full Feature Software / full driver printer software is available.

Install the software using the Easy Start wrapper.

At the point where you can do so, Select to install the Full Driver.

Printer Software Check

Notes

If the full driver printer software is (already) installed, you will see the printer listed in Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features.

In addition, the installed software places two shortcut icons on the Desktop.

The Printer Assistant is named for the printer and provides access to Print , Scan , and Tools

HP Scan is named for itself and provides a direct call to the HP Scan software.

Printer software not installed?

Method - Use the Easy Start Wrapper to Install the Full Feature / Full Driver Software

For printers that support the option,

Use the Easy Start wrapper to install and configure the printer software.

  • Home Page - HP Easy Start
  • Open Category Software and Drivers
  • Topic: Software-Utility
  • Download-and-Save  the current version of the Easy Start wrapper to install your print software
  • If using USB:  Disconnect the USB cable between the printer and computer before installing the software.
  • Right-Click on the downloaded package and "Run as Administrator" to start the installation
  • When asked, Select to install the “Full Driver” / “Full Feature Software”
  • If using USB:  Connect the cable when instructed to do so (near the end of the installation process).
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

Notes >> Easy Start... The Journey

  1. Full Administrator Rights are required to complete the HP Software installation.
  2. About 2/3 of the way through the setup, you will be given the opportunity to select the software - select the "Full Driver" set (as opposed to the basic driver or other application).
  3. You can skip / ignore suggestion(s) that you add the HP Account – you’ll need the account at some point, for now, you can skip this suggestion (as many times as it insists it’s a good idea) during the full driver software installation.
  4. If you see it, you can skip / ignore suggestion(s) regarding Instant Ink subscription.  Instant Ink subscription is NOT mandatory.
  5. Full driver includes print and scan functions supported by your printer and provides the printer features on which other applications / software might depend.

I downloaded the HP Easy Start solution v 13_1_15. I ran this program as Administrator. It did not reach the stage of asking for "Full Driver” / “Full Feature Software". A wizard for setting up the printer cartridges came up. I already had the cartridges, but again I pulled them out and fixed them again. The wizard still complained that I have not closed the door/shutter after fixing the cartridges. After a few minutes I got the option of "Skip Installing Ink", I chose that option.

Then there was a wait for around 5 minutes, before I got the next screen. It already said that I have HP Smart installed, and then had the option to download the "Full Driver” / “Full Feature Software". I chose that option. The package was downloaded, and that was it. The downloaded package was not automatically installed. So ran the downloaded DJ2700_Full_WebPack_51.2.4772.exe as an Administrator. After installing around 8 modules/features, this software came with a screen which said that there is a newer version of HP Easy Start which I need to download! The same software which I had downloaded first was downloaded again. HP Easy Start then started checking for my 'Software needs'. Luckily it did not find new needs, and so prompted me to register a user account. And then HP Smart again took me to the Printer cartridge setup wizard. After using "Skip Installing Ink", it again started checking for the software I wanted. And the "Full Driver” / “Full Feature Software" again came up.

Basically the whole thing was becoming a cycle activity. And finally I closed the window, and it gave a message that I have installed all software. And I checked and found out that HP Deskjet 2700 series Basic Device Software has been installed. Version was 51.2.4771.2064.

I opened the photo editing tool GIMP, took a photograph which was of size 5.53 x 3.54. Gave the command to print. In the printer's option I chose 'Photo Printing with white borders'. Paper size was automatically chosen as 4x6in. Paper Type was HP Photo Papers, Print Quality was Normal and Print in Gray Scale was No. I changed the last option to High Quality Gray Scale. Orientation was set as 'Landscape'. Right after the Print command was given, the printer started flashing all lights. I cancelled the print job and tried again. Note; the printer was connected to my laptop via the USB cable. This time the photo paper was pulled in, but no printing happened. I tried once again. This time the photo paper was pulled in but the 'Paper Jam' light started glowing. I pressed on the button, and the photo paper was once again pushed out with nothing printed.

I opened the same file in MS Paint, and fired a print out. This time the printer did print the picture. But on the right side the margin was still more. 0.50 inch border on all sides except the right side. On right side the margin was 0.75 inch. So looks like the margin issue is NOT gone even after installing new drivers etc.
