My printer stopped accepting jobs from MS Office.  No explanation, just a queue that has the blue line running across the top of the window but never printing.  Sending a print command from a newspaper or ancestry database gets no response.  REALLY annoying and no diagnostics that I've run with the HP Smart app fixes the problem.  Please help.

Product / Printer Model:  ?

Operating System:  ?

Software / Application:  ?

Connection Type:  ?

Content / File Type:  ?

Paper Size / Type: ?

Job type:

  1. Printer does not print from MS Office
  2. Printer does accept job from website (newspaper) or online database

I do not see where you mentioned your Printer Model and Operating System/version.

If you did, I may have missed it, or your message failed to include that information.

The following is most relevant to recent / supported versions of Windows and a supported printer.

-- Ideas / Examples--

=====================================

  • Printing directly from within Microsoft Office generally requires that you have installed the full driver printer software.

Said another way:

  • The full driver printer software must be installed and functional (not corrupted)

  • The full driver must be accessible -- check that the Printer Properties > Tab Advanced > Driver = the installed HP driver and not the IPP / Microsoft Drivers.  Example #1 and, optionally, #2
  • Printer_Properties_Reprint_17Printer_Properties_Reprint_17
  • Windows Updates should be installed (not pending or waiting for Restart).

  • The printer Firmware should be at the latest available version.

Next,

  • Printing from Word requires that the printer be selected as the Destination, that Properties set to an appropriate Shortcut and paper settings.    Word_Test_6x6_Card_Print_3Word_Test_6x6_Card_Print_3

  • If used, the Tray setting in Word, it must be selected correctly.

Word > File > Options > Advanced > Scroll to Print > Select Default tray > Select OK to save and exit

  • Printing from your web browser requires that the printer (or a designated specialty driver / queue) to be selected as the Destination.   Firefox_Print_Web_Page_11Firefox_Print_Web_Page_11

  • The Destination is (can be) selected in the (web browser) Print Settings or during the job configuration in your application (Word).

Next,

  • Printing from Word, your web browser, or another application on your computer requires that the printer queue is properly running and that Print Services are running and accessible.

Windows - Print Queue / Print Service Reset / Rebuild

    • In most cases, after a print job has been accepted, it is turned over the Windows Print Services for completion.
    • When a job is "stuck in the queue", it is sometimes because Print Services is stuck or otherwise “broken”.
    • If the job is accepted and quickly disappears, it is perhaps the result of incorrect Temp folder permissions.

  • If you wish to use the Windows Reprint feature, it must be set up ahead of time.   #3Printer_Properties_Reprint_17Printer_Properties_Reprint_17
