HP ENVY Inspire 7255e All-in-One Printer

Hello. I keep receiving a carriage jam error saying that it cannot move and to clear any paper jam or obstruction. I am unable to find any obstruction. I can move the carriage manually. I've reset my printer. I've dusted the inside. Nothing has worked so far. Does anyone else have any other suggestions? Id be so grateful! Thanks!

Hi @JadeS3, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've already tried the most common troubleshooting steps for a carriage jam error on your HP ENVY Inspire 7255e printer. Here are a few additional things you can check and try:

Check for Hidden Obstructions

Even if the carriage moves manually, there could still be a small obstruction. Try the following:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Use a flashlight to inspect both the left and right sides of the printer, where the carriage moves.
  • Look for tiny scraps of paper, dust, or debris stuck in the rails or near the encoder strip (a thin, clear plastic strip running behind the carriage).
  • If you find anything, gently remove it with tweezers or compressed air.

Clean the Carriage Path & Encoder Strip

  • Lightly dampen a lint-free cloth with distilled water.
  • Wipe the encoder strip (the transparent strip behind the carriage) carefully.
  • Allow it to dry completely before turning the printer back on.

Re-seat the Ink Cartridges

  • Remove both ink cartridges while the printer is off.
  • Check for ink buildup or dirt on the cartridges and carriage.
  • Reinstall the cartridges securely.

Lubricate the Carriage Rod

  • Sometimes, the carriage rod (the metal bar it slides on) may need lubrication.
  • Use a tiny amount of silicone-based lubricant on a cotton swab and apply it to the metal rod.
  • Avoid using too much, as it can attract dust.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Unplug the printer while turned on.
  • Hold the Power button for 30 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

Update the Printer Firmware

  • Go to HP Support and download the latest firmware update for your printer.
  • Install it via HP Smart or the printer’s built-in update function.

Check the Carriage Belt

  • If the carriage belt (the rubber belt behind the carriage) is loose or damaged, the printer may think there’s a jam.
  • If you notice slack or damage, the printer might need service.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
