I have a 6310v all in one using a HP 95 color cartridge.

If it was simple to either call or e-mail HP I would have.  The worst customer service website I have ever seen.

I don't have the time to wait on automated call in services, but I too have an HP 6310 All In One and am getting the same error messages. I have just recently purchased brand new HP color cartridges and have gotten the same error message using two of them. I  installed one to replace an empty one and within a week was getting the message. I replaced it with another new one and promptly started getting the same "Cartridge Error~Left Cartridge needs ro be removed and reinserted" or something to that effect. I used to use Canon units but was constantly having problems with them and ink cartridges so I switched to an HP. My first All In One didn't last long but I think that was my fault when I removed paper jams. I replaced it with the one I currently have about 2-3 years back and haven't been happy lately. It worked fine for the first years, but now it's becoming a PITA. I do receive faxes and print certain files regularly but this is NOT a high volume machine.

I may attempt to use up my small fortune in cartridges and then spring for a new unit of another make, possibly even a Laser Printer.

Try cleaning the cartridge and carriage contacts as shown in this post.  I would guess the carriage contacts have some ink or fiber buildup that are causing electrical issues in the connection between the carriage and cartridge.

I'll do the suggested cleaning and see what happens. I should have an answer in a day or so and I'll report back. thanks for the suggestion.

It didn't take long to show that cleaning wasn't the answer. I cleaned the area and the cartridge per instructions and after the second  incoming fax I got the error message again.

Try this:

HP Officejet 6310 All-in-one
---------------------------------------------
First pull out of the printer the Ink Cartriges then
press 4 + # + OK - this sends you a info menu (Press keys simultaneously)
With the nav keys, scroll to the CHECKSUM FOR RELOCK DATA INPUT - press Ok 5 times . Then exit by pressing Cancell Button.
If this dosnt work the 1st time, you need 2 or 3 times more to ensure relock data ok

Hint: After you press 4 + # + OK, you get a menu. Hit left arrow. Then it gives you a code to enter. Enter those digits.

Some kind of voodoo going on. It works for me, but only temporarily. I have to do it again from time to time to make the printer work again.

I think that hp puts in a time related error based on the expiration date. Irregardless of the condition of the ink cartridge, it gives you the error based on the manufacture date.

This cartridge was working fine,  was recently replaced correctly and, without degradation in print quality, suddenly has an error message with no way to repair it. There is plenty of useable ink in it, verified by placing on a napkin, all colors flow freely. The only reasonable explanation is that the cartridge has an electronic date code that makes it useless.

I,m no longer a HP fan an will no longer be a patron.

You think incorrectly - none of the tri-color cartridges have an expiration date that can be electrically read by the printer.  The printer has no way of knowing the expiration date and it does not take action based on expiration.  There is no "electronic date code" in any HP cartridges with integrated printheads and ink supplies.

What is your printer model?  Cleaning the cartridge and printer contacts as shown in this post may resolve your issue.

I resolved my problem with my HP printer. A few days after my last post I purchased a Brother MFC-J825DW all in one. I'm as happy as a clam. The HP and all its related cartridges all went to the landfill. I've had it with HP and won't be purchasing anything they make in the future.

Resolving cartridge error messages on the OJ 6310....

Step one: Remove, inspect, and reseat the cartridges

The print cartridge may not have full electrical contact with the printer. Removing and reinstalling the cartridge may help.
NOTE:HP cannot guarantee the quality of remanufactured or refilled cartridges.
  1. Make sure the printer is on. Press the Power button if it is not lit.
  2. Open the printer cover, then wait until the print cartridge carriage is idle and silent.
  3. Press down lightly on the end of the problem cartridge to release it.
Figure 1: Removing the tri-color cartridge
  4. Slide the cartridge out and inspect it:
CAUTION:Do not touch the copper electrical contacts or the ink nozzles.
Figure 2: Electrical contacts and nozzles
    1 - Copper electrical contacts
    2 - Nozzles
Check the electrical contacts for debris.
Make sure all the clear nozzle protective tape has been removed.
CAUTION:Do not attempt to remove the copper electrical strip!
Figure 3: Removing the clear nozzle protective tape
Look at the number on the print cartridge label and make sure it is compatible with your printer. Compatible print cartridges are listed in the Printer Reference Guide supplied with your printer.
  5. If the cartridge is compatible, reinstall it in the printer:

  6. Cartridges marked with a triangle go into the left carriage slot.
  7. Cartridges marked with a square or pentagon go into the right carriage slot.
  8.
Figure 4: Sliding the cartridge into the carriage
Figure 5: Pushing the cartridge into place
Step two: Clean the cartridge contacts

  1. Gather the following items to clean the cartridge and carriage:

  2. Clean distilled water. Use bottled or filtered water if distilled water is not available. Tap water can contain contaminants that damage the cartridge.
  3. Clean cotton swabs or any soft, lint-free material that will not stick to the cartridges (coffee filters work well).
  4. Sheets of paper or a paper towel to rest the cartridge on during cleaning.
  5. Open the product cover and wait until the carriage is idle and silent.
  6. Remove the cartridge and place it on a piece of paper with the nozzle plate facing up.
NOTE:Clean the contacts quickly so that the cartridge is not outside of the product for more than 30 minutes. If the cartridge is outside of the product for too long, the ink can dry and clog the nozzles.
  7. Unplug the product from the electrical outlet.
  8. Dip the swab or other cleaning material in the water and squeeze it to remove most of the moisture. The swab should be only slightly damp.
  9. Clean the cartridge contacts.
CAUTION:Do not touch the ink nozzles.
    Figure 6: Cartridge contacts
    Cartridge contacts
  10. Clean the contacts in the carriage.
    Figure 7: Carriage contacts
    Carriage contacts
  11. Either let the cartridge sit for 10 minutes to allow the cleaned area to dry, or use a new swab to dry it.
  12. Reinstall the cartridge.
  13. Reconnect the product to the electrical outlet.
  14. Close the product cover.

If this doesn't resolve the issue, you could contact HP Phone Support (can first check the warranty ends date of the cartridge, as shown below)
