Received a cartridge jam message.  Nothing will fix it -- the cartridge is stuck at the far left of the printer (as you face it).  I've tried unplugging / power drain, etc.  There is no jam.  Other than taking a sledgehammer to it, what do I do?

Hi @kbf18,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I understand you're experiencing a carriage jam issue with your printer.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, I'm here to help you today.

Please follow the steps below to fix the issue.

A) Perform a power drain.

1) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

2) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

3) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

4) Power on the printer and check if the carriage moves to the center to replace the ink cartridges

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

C) Refer to the steps on this link to troubleshoot further to release the carriage jam.

D) If the issue still persists, refer to the steps on this link to restore factory defaults and let me know if that resolves the issue.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!

Thank you for trying to help.  I had seen your earlier post and tried it, but the software was not the problem.  The problem was a small white wheel which had fallen off the spoke and jammed the cartridge.  Per a video I found, in order to fix that, you need to dismantle the guts of the printer, which requires special tools.  I did not have those tools.  Like many HP printers, this one became disposable.  I went and bought a new printer instead.
