I am trying to change the margins on the finished product while trying to print information from a web page from Safari (11.1.1) at a reduced size (70%).

The page when printed has to be in a binder and the holes for the insertion in the binder punch out some of the writing from the printed page.  I would like to widen the distance between the left edge of the paper and the printing.  I have tried setting up a custom paper size with a 1" margin but the margins do not translate to the printed page.  It remains a little under 5/8" no matter what i do.

Any solution to my problem?

I appreciate your time and efforts,

Please try using an alternate application, if you haven't done it yet

@Adobes

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand you need help changing the print margins on your device,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

  • Did you know your printer supports AirPrint drivers for your MacOS?
    • Good news! I did, and it's supported, in fact it supports AirPrint, and that's what you need instead, as it seems to be a driver issue, considering you've followed the right instructions to change the margins and yet it didn't work.

While you respond to that, here's what you need to do:

Check the printing requirements:

Make sure your printer and Apple iOS device meet the following requirements to print with AirPrint.

  • iOS 4.2 or later running on the Apple iOS device

  • An HP printer that supports AirPrint

HP wireless printers released in 2010 and later support AirPrint. For detailed information about which HP printers support AirPrint, go to Mobile Printing Solutions Compatible with HP Printers.

  • A connection to the printer

Your printer and the Apple iOS device must be on the same local network or your printer must support Wi-Fi Direct or HP wireless direct.

Try to print. If a No AirPrint printers found message displays, continue to the next step to connect the printer.

  1. Make sure your Mac is connected to the Internet.

  2. In the Printers list, click your HP printer, and then click the Minus button  to delete it.

  3. Click the Add button .

  4. Find and select the name of your printer from the Printer list, and then click Add to add your printer. Do not select an HP Fax driver.

       NOTE:

If your printer does not display in the list, make sure the printer is connected, turned on, has power, and is ready to print.

Figure : Example of the printer selection list

Image: The Add window showing a selection of printers with one model selected.
  5. Click Print Using or Use.

  6. Select AirPrint.

Figure : Menu showing AirPrint selected

    Image: Menu showing AirPrint selected

Your new printer queue displays in the Printers list in an Idle status .

Figure : Example of a newly added printer in the Printers & Scanners list

Image: The printers and scanners windows with one printer in the printers list
  7. Try printing again.

    • If the printer prints, you can stop troubleshooting.

    • If the printer remains offline or displays an error, continue to the next step.

I am not trying to print from a portable device but from my Mac Mini.  I can not find a way to adjust the margins.  I have read posts to eliminate them completly but that is not my problem.  I want a larger margin on the left side of the printed page to allow room for a 3 hole puch to be used without destroying the printing and the page can be inseerted in a binder.

Apparantly there is no way to do what I want using Safari with my printere.  I did try changing the margins using Firefox as the browser and was able to do what i wanted.  Thanks for the suggestion.  I do wish I could change the margins using Safari.

The printer is a HP Officejet Pro 8600 all in one.  I am using it with a Mac Mini and operating system MacOS High Sierra VS 10.13.6.  I tried the steps and they did not solve my problem.  Yes I can make copies as well as print from my computer, scan and fax using the printer.

@Omor,

It looks like you were interacting with Jeet_singh, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out.

I'm Raj1788 & I'm at your service.

Let's update the firmware and the MAC software.

To update the printer firmware and Mac Software Use the below Hyperlink:

Update printer firmware

Update software on Mac

Then, Remove multiple printers from the printer list

Check for multiple devices in the Printers list, and then remove any extra entries other than one in idle status.

  1. Search the Mac for Print, and then click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners in the list of results.

  2. Find the printer names that match your printer from the list of devices.

Printers and Scanner window with multiple names of HP Photosmart 7520 printers shown in the list

  3. If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button  at the bottom of the list. Leave one 'idle' printer in the list that matches your printer if available and use this printer as the Default printer.

  4. Try printing again.

    • If the printer prints, you can stop troubleshooting.

    • If the printer remains offline or displays an error, continue to the next step.

Delete the existing print queue and add the printer

Remove the printer queue from the list of printers, and then add it again. Doing so creates a new printing session.

Image: The Add window showing a selection of printers with one model selected.

  5. Click Print Using or Use.

  6. Select the name of your printer (if available) or AirPrint.

    Image: Menu showing AirPrint selected

Your new printer queue displays in the Printers list in an Idle status .

Image: The printers and scanners windows with one printer in the printers list

  7. Try printing again.

Keep me posted, how it goes!
