HP Photosmart 7510
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Our HP 7510 has ink slots for both small and XL cartridges, however it will only use the ink from the small cartridge. How to I change the settings to switch to the XL cartridge, as the small one has run out of ink and I cannot find the small (Photo) black ink cartridge in the stores now. I have purchased two "small" ones, one was an XL, not labled as such and we ordered cartridges from HP on the web and they were too large also. I need to be able to use the XL black ink cartridge that is installed.

Thank you..

Hi,

Firstly, XL ink cartridges physically have same size with normal ink cartridges (same number). The difference is XL cartridges have more inks.

Your printer has 2 black ink cartridges, the narrower one called Photo ink cartridge and the wider/fatter one called Black ink cartridge. When printing Grayscale, printer will mix all colors to give B&W. If you wish to print Black Ink only, you need to tell your printer. Please try

(a) Double click printer icon on desktop,
(b) Click Set Preferences,
(c) Click Advanced,
(d) Select "Black Ink only" for Print in Grayscale
(e) Click Ok/Apply ...

Note: Printer still needs all color inks and it will consume a very small amount of inks during warmng up proces.

Regards.

Thank you, took a few minutes to find where to go, but it worked. We are now using the XL cartridge.
