@RickFR: No, I don't think it has to do with that. From an earlier post in this thread from @Katherine73 it seems that it could be the flat cable going to the display. The connections are a bit fragile so the cable might have to be re-seated or the end needs a bit snipped off.

Thank you @Incith to share this!!

Do you guys think @Incith's fix may be applicable also to those who haven't bought a new formatter board?
In principle the board is the same right?

- the firmare is publicly available

- the software is publicly available

what is missing is a clear way on how to set the jumper to update the firmware. from the picture shared by @Incith I am not sure it's touching two pins and which ones.

Um yes, that's the whole point - I never bought a new board.  This fixed my original, broken board.

Literally the only 2 pins on the board

I would probably use the nativeofficefonts file it's bigger and contains more stuff.  I just updated to that firmware now.

You need something metal to touch the two pins together (bridge them) when you turn the printer on.

So to summarize:

You jump the pins and power the printer, connect the printer with an USB cable and push the SW with usbsend?

Do you keep the pins jumped throughout the update process ?  e.g. how long do you need to keep them jumped ?

@incith Can you clarify which error scenario you had. I have been watching these forums closely and there appears to be those who have 79 errors with a resend update message and there are those that have a 49 error that results in a constant reboot loop.  I also believe that some users mentioned that not all board have the firmware jumper pins on them. I will check the customer unit that i have sitting on my workbench right now on Monday because if that works, GREAT. However, many who have these units are unlikely to be comfortable opening them up to do this, and I do necessarily think that they should have to do this themselves for an issue that seems to have developed as a result of a buggy firmware update.

Remove FW upgrade jumper after you get to ready 2 download screen.  Don't want it to keep rebooting into fw upgrade mode.  Then push firmware.

Was getting error 49.  I agree, most people won't want to pry open the side of the printer.  If there is no FW upgrade pins then...I don't know what you'd do lol.  You can try sending the firmware while it's booting up but I don't think that will work.  Could try doing a factory reset so you get to the select language screen (hold lower left corner when printer turns on, of display, to init permanent storage, but lower left side seems to make it get to the select language screen, lower right corner doesn't seem to do that).  So anyway, maybe if you do the init perm. storage, and leave it on select language, maybe usbsend will work on that screen too?  I haven't tested tho.

Not sure if this will be removed or not - I threw up some pictures and posts on itbacon.com which is my site, that nobody knows exists really, just figured it would be easier to read for some.

Hello,

so, I opened the printer, not so complicated.
Now, the BAD news is that in my device (European / Swiss) the jumpers are not there, the two wholes have been "half filled". I guess they can be added with a bit of soldering, but I am open to suggestions. I tried short-circuiting the two pins with a short piece of cable and a screwdriver but the printer boots normally until I get error 49.
