My HP LaserJet M283fdw printer went offline every time I tried to print. I ran HP Print and Scan Doctor and, at first, it could only find my M283fdw but not my HP Universal Printing PS. Later, HP Print and Scan Doctor was able to find and communicate with HP Universal Printing PS. Now, the HP Universal Printing PS says ready. But when I try to print now, it still refuses to print and says 'Error'. It seems to be stuck in queue. Please help me?

After I connect the computer to the printer through USB, often the printer will not print. So far, the printer only prints when it is connected to the computer by USB and after I run HP Print and Scan Doctor.

Thank you for the instructions. As I type this, I am not able to get past Part A, Step 6. In the installation, the dialog box asks me for the IP address. I give what I think is the IP address, and I receive this dialog box:

Hi,
Thanks for your feedback with the screenshots.
The error is not with the installation itself, but the printer must be reset and the WLAN, WiFi must be deactivated. Also, the printer must not be connected to the system!
Here is another, more detailed uninstallation instruction.
The HP software, including HP Smart, must be completely uninstalled and removed of the system.
You must be logged in with your admin account.
Then proceed as follows:
Check the system for
- TuneUp`s
- Optimization Tools
- Cleanup Tools
disable them, better uninstall them. Next...
- Disconnect printer/scanner from computer- Disable WLAN, WiFi and/or remove the USB or LAN cable.- Do not switch off the printer >> unplug the power cord from the socket!
- right-click Start, search for "control panel" and open "Programs and Features"
uninstall all HP printer software > via "Programs and Features" - right-click Start, search for "control panel" and open "Devices and Printers"
In the "Devices and Printers" window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.” - Restart the PC
- Close all programs
- Change File-Explorer-Settings:View > Options > "Change folder and search options" > Tab "View"
- enable > Show hidden files, folders and drives
- uncheck > Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
- search for "HP [printer name]" and delete all this folders
- Empty the TEMP folders
A) C:\Users\[Your user account]\AppData\Local\Temp\
B) C:\Windows\Temp\ system files cannot be deleted! - Reconnect the printer to the power supply and switch it on (if this does not happen automatically)
- Please note: WLAN has to be deactivated!
- Restart the PC
- Close all programs
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo > in folder Downloads double-click on the EXE, file name: Full_Webpack-51.10.6100-SJ0001_Full_Webpack.exe (411.2 MB).
- Installation only via USB, means wait until the installation asks to connect the printer/scanner.
Once here, connect the USB cable from the printer to the computer. - The installation was completed successfully, now you must ...
- Restart the PC again
- Now the installation is complete.
Document error messages accurately, even better is to take a screenshot of it and upload here.
Important information:
- Change back the File Explorer settings -
- enable > Don`t show hidden files, folders or drives
- click button > Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
Kind Regards

Thank you. I got through all the steps. With the printer connected to the computer through USB, I successfully printed a document.
It says that now I cannot print documents wirelessly. Is there a way once again for me to print documents wirelessly? After I disconnected the USB cable, it says the printer is offline.
Is it better for me not to install HP Smart again? (I want it so that when I print, the default is already "Print on Both Sides," flipping it on the long edge, etc.)

No, because the switch from USB to WiFi / WLAN can be made at any time.
But printers can do even more ... see below X)

Is independent of HP Smart.
Have you tested this? Duplex printing is activated normally.
Which program(s) is/are being used?
X) Questions:
- Is the scanner being used?
- Is the fax function being used?
Take your time, don't rush ... 😉
