Trying to print a photo of a black cat in my garden. White fence prints as white; wooden fence printing as brown. Both true colors. The cat and a trellis -- both black -- come out teal blue as does the rosemary bush in front of the cat. Help!IMG_0015 - Copy.JPG

The photo and black cartridges are not interchangable, and in fact the black cartridge is wider and would not fit in the photo slot.

The troubleshooting steps in the document here may help resolve incorrect colors printing in your Photosmart c310 printer.  Based on your description I would suspect the Photo Black cartridge (the one to the left of the Magenta cartridge) is not printing properly.  On the test page printed in step 5 the Photo cartridge would print the dark gray strip below yellow in the test page.  I suspect your printer will print this area blank.

The Photo cartridge is used for dark area only when printing on photo paper, on plain paper printing the black cartridge would be used.

It was a new cartridge from Staples just today. I will give the test print a try and see what happens. Somewhere I read the black and black photo are not interchangeable; somewhere else I read they were. Do you happen to know which is true? If interchangeable, and if it fails the test, I'll put a regular black in its place and see what happens. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much for your suggestion! I printed a test page, which was 'just alright.' I then cleaned the print cartridges. Don't know why that would fix a brand new cartridge, but it did and the photo printed perfectly. What a great forum this is, especially for those of us who techno challenged. Thanks again and happy new year!
